Creatine...Keto diet

Hey everybody,
I will be doing a keto diet sometime next year. I sat here already thinking about how I would approach this, and I wondered... Creatine Mono is best used with simple carbs from what I understand. Now I dont take this to be the whole truth, but have to consider the possibility that creatine mono is most effectice with simple carbs; and considering I wont be ingesting simple carbs, is creatine mono still an option or would you all suggest a different creatine?

I have never really used a p.w.o. drink before. I have always heard the benefits but heck I eat some much food during the day I dont know how much my muscles are really wanting food after my workout. Im still usually pretty satisfied, or even semi full after my workout. When I am hungry I just usually go home and have some sort of red meat and maybe some sweet potatoes (I love them). If not I wait till I get to where Im feeling a little hungry again... I guess I have been on Phil's eat when hungry diet for a few years lol... But maybe i'll try a p.w.o. shake, it might help.
 
Sugar doesn't improve creatine bioavailability in itself... it's the induced insulin spike that will help removing it faster from your bloostream once it gets into it (ie when it's "digested") and will drive it into your muscles that does.

So not ingesting carbs may just slow down the absorption... not annihilate it.

Which means you can of course take creatine while on a keto diet. Take it while you're working out or just when you're done to give it more chances to be properly assimilated.

Kre-alkalyn or ethyl-ester would be better though... :)
 
What do you think about dicreatine malate?

Don't know how it really compares to other forms of creatine, but just from the name it's two molecules of creatine bonded to one molecule of malic acic (an apple derivative).

So the main question should be: what does malic acid do for you?

Basically it's used in the krebs cycle to increase energy. Bonded to other compounds, it's said to improve their delivery rate... so it might be useful. Have never tried it though... :)

An alternative to Creatine?
it will absolutely knock you out of keto. a true keto diet does not even include a post workout drink.

I was kinda thinking that, but if I do have a p.w.o. drink could I just use bcaa's, and glycine to give an insulin response?

that woul;d be fine, as long as the drink did not contain any carbs. a true keto diet should not contain more than about 30g carbs a day form green veggies and a few from protein drinks. most "pwo drinks" contain 50-75 g carbs mostly from sugar. this is more than enough to keep you from ever reaching any degree of ketosis.
