Do Pros really eat that much?

I've read a few article in which pros discussed their diets and it just seems unreal. Maybe they do eat that much to support all that mass but damn. I don't know how they could stomach it all.

I read a Jay cutler diet once and he would eat like 25 egg whites with some yolks all at once multiple times throughout the day and eat like 20 ounces of meat several times a day. as well as a bunch of other stuff. something like 10 k+ calories a day? How do these guys train themselves to handle all that?

Do all the freaks eat like this? Maybe Phil can answer this since he probably has the most experinece being around these guys.

I think there are alot of things posted or written about the Pros that are not ture, but I do believe that they do eat that much. It is the only way to keep gaining muscle.
 
Yes, i truly belive it. you can train your body to eat that much. just keep eating!!! I like to think of a metabolism as a furnace sometimes. to keep the fire burning you need to throw wood or in this case food on the fire. the more food you continually throw on it year after year the more food the fire can handle. eventually you can get to the point that no matter what you throw on the fire it will burn it.
 
If i ate anything close to 10k calories a day I would need to install a power rack above my toilet.

true but if you put too much logs on the fire the fire will go out and you will end up with too much wood and no fire..= FAT
 
with this number of calories...

With this number of calories coming in it would seem crucial to take care of your digestive health but you rarely hear any strength athlete talking about it.
 
do the pros really eat like that?? not all. some eat fairly normal amounts.. some eat all day long and high calories.. if i were to eat like cutler states i would be the fattest guy here.. my friend in cali who competes on the national level for years and was roomemates with lee haney for a while (i have talked about him before in previous posts) said that he (lee) never really ate like what was stated in the mags.. he said he ate alot less than most people think.. tom platz one time said that people where amazed at how little he ate .. so it depends on the pro..i eat three meals a day and two shakes...if i went above that i would be a fat sum bitch..i am 268 now .. hell, it aint pretty at that weight and adding more meals in would be asking for a circus job...

Lats, it depends on what food you are eating and the size of the meals. 3 meals and 2 shakes for me is nothing but if your meals are 1 cup oats with an 8oz lean steak or turkey/chicken breast, then you can eat 5 of these with 2 shakes easily and not get fat. but if its mcdonald's, then..i dont know :)
 
HEY , DO NOT DISS MC DONALDS MAN.. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR 260 OF MY 268 POUNDS LOL...quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and a apple pie..i also have a diet coke..trying to watch my calories lol.. :rolleyes:
 
Depends!

I used to eat 600grams of protein a day and had a lot of stomach probs for years. Nowadays I don't go over 300-350grams and much better and still 305. You can't utilize that much protien no matter what others say.

EXACTLY... phil and i talked about this before.. there is no way that the body is utilizing 600 grams of protein.. when i consumed larger amounts of protein, i got nothing but the shits and gas..even if the guy is enhanced, there is only so much protein the body can handle..if you need the calories, there are other ways to get them in..i consume 250 approx of protein a day and have never had a problem growing...
 
I was thinking along the same lines as Derek and Phoenix. I'm sure thats got to be unhealthy on the inside to be overly forcing extreme amounts of food on a regular basis.
 
I am already in the restroom 2xxs a day on workdays and 3times on off days dont know if I could add anymore food. The more I eat the more mother nature calls. MM
 
eating sucks

im so sick of eating, but if I let up just a little I start losing size and strength.
when i finally get outta school and finally start making some real $$$, im gonna invest in research to develop intravenous nutrients made with custom macronutrient ratios and a permenant implant that would allow for easy and pain free injection site. that way you can eat 3 meals a day like a normal person and make up the rest with intravenous injections.

Lats, how can you eat like that and have only 8 pounds of fat? because if i ate mcdonalds every day i would get fatter each day. those foods make me real hungry although i cannot eat like that. 268 is pretty damn big, with only 8 pounds of fat with a mcdonalds diet?

I have a friend who is atop ranked IFBB pro & he eats more then anyone I personally know probably 2x as much as anyone I know

Thsi is like asking if football players really run that much. I say that some do and some dont. At my peak, I was eating 5000 per day and I was stuffed. I weighed 260 and was really hard. Any more calories than that and I would have been fatter. Calories in calories out, that is the key.
 
How do you think the PROS keep all that muscle mass inside? drugs cannot do it, EATING is what makes the machine grow, period.

Sure, there are other ways to get the calories in, but nothing makes muscle except protein, better to get more than to get less and if you consume 250 and you grow then better for you, some people cannot do that.
