Does it make sense to train twice a day

I have been thinking about training 2 times a day 3 times a week. But I dont know if it is the best choice. I have a very fast metabolism and I have a hard time puting on weight. So I dont know if it would be productive.

I am only going to do this 3 times a week so I can hit legs chest and back two times a week.

so my routine would look like this..

M-chest
T-Quads
W-Triceps
T-Back-chest (only flat bench and incline 2 sets each)
F-Biceps-quads (only squats)
S-hams
Su-Back (only deads)
I dont have a problem training 7 days a week..I recover very fast and am very young..I usually take off 5 days through out the month when I feel I need it

I have been getting in 5,487 cals a day (this may very by 200-300 cals a day) The cals are all pretty clean..

every one of my meals right now is either 2 chicken breasts with one twiced baked potato, 2 chicken breasts with one pizza bread, 3 cans of tuna on toast, and protein shakes with oil and 100 grams of carbs..so that is what all my cals come from..I eat this every day..

so what are some thoughts on this..

i think if ur more of an ectomorph body type that really has to work hard for mass then shorter more intense workouts with longer breaks are better.

so i wouldn't train 2x a day.

although there are alot of pros that do.

u'ld prolly get opinions on this on both sides of the fence
 
i am an ecto too. train no more than 45-60 min about 3x per week. NO CARDIO
 
I would not suggest it if you are a hard gainer. You working out more will just burn more calories. I to have seen where some pros work out twice a day, but these are pros. If your wanting to put on some weight(mass) try going every other day 3 times a week to give your body extra time to recover, and also stick with basic lifts like bench press,deadlifts, squats.Good luck
 
Hmmm

Save yourself years of wasting time and realize that you are a hard gainer with a fast metobolism so 3 times a week is plenty. Try to eat, Sleep and rest, dont run when u can walk, stand when you can sit etc.

I know you love the gym but once I realized that I grow outside the gym not in my gains were vastly improved, you are currently doing a routine for an overweight guy trying to put on a tad of muscle and burn cals.

Back to the drawing board, and keep eating, Just curios what is pizza bread?
 
I am not sure how to explain it. It is shaped like a boat and has all the makings of a regular pizza..

I just eat these with my ckicken to give it some flavor..

anyway thanks for the replies but I know that 3 times a week is not for me..I have grown a considerable amount in the past 2 years and it has been on only 5 days rest a month..
 
for 99% of us I dont think its neccesary to reach our goals, BIG A has written something in the past explaining that training twice a day is too much, something about your body not being recorved to endure more training, it was probably a year ago when I read it.

I do know some pros including arnold would train in the AM & PM tho.. at the same time realize people like ronnie coleman only train once a day, as far as resitance training goes.. i know cardio he does 1hr in morning and 1hr at night last weeks before a comp..
 
One advantage is the concentration and intensity you could give to each workout and bodypart. Just dont make each session too long 40-60min tops.
 
I am not sure if most of you are really reading what I have wrote..

I am only doing 4 extra sets of chest a week along with one extra squat and dead lift seassion..

I am not trying this because so and so is doing it..I could not do two chest sessions or 2 full leg sessions a week..My body could not handle it..The reason is I started doing one extra bench session a week about 3 weeks ago and my chest has started to show more improvements..

I am not doing this because I think it will make me a pro I am doing it just to get as big as I possibly can..

You guys are making this waaaaaaaaaay too complicated. Just worry about getting stronger, because if you are not, nothing is happening. If it takes 2 workouts per week or 14, just figure it out by testing it, not guessing.
