Dr. Andrew Huberman

This guy is terrible and jus shilling for whatever affiliate that pays him this month. A spouts a lot of conjecture and makes statements based on his anecdotal experiences. Curcumin is terrible because he felt awful on it. He pushes a lot of supplements making various claims but really doesn't back it up, not even with n=1 bloodwork. Apigenin is great for sleep and everything else. A Lot of people took it and reported experiences contradicting his. Now he's pushing herbal test booster like tongkat, fadogia, etc hyping it up be like trt.

This is always disappointing when these guys come out with their supplements like and herbal test boosters etc. I used to follow Rhonda Patrick, then everything she put out became tied to something she was selling. Then It kind of hit me....that's the end game, makes you question the information if it's just a hook to some supplement.

Hubermans push for Ashwangda is very scary. These guys are playing around with lowering cortisol while at the same time doing everything else to leverage cortisol eg, restricted carbs, fasting, cold showers, trying to min max something like cortisol is a dangerous game especially in the circumstances he recommends (high stress periods).

Respected him the first time I saw him on JRE a few years ago and his early podcasts, how’s he’s just a grifter shill like the rest of em.

Yeah I've never understood why people want to suppress cortisol. Have you ever seen anyone out of range? I've got mine tested with prolonged dieting, stress, thought it may be low. Nope, perfect in range. Any issues I was having wouldn't have been solved by doing a million things to lower cortisol.

I've learned a lot from him. I just ignore what I don't think is useful / helpful for my personal situation. (I should probably do the same with my reaction to some of the replies in this thread, ha!)

I used to listen to him all the time and was a big fan, but as was already stated, he definitely has a very long way of putting things we all already know, that’s for sure.

I will say though, ice plunges in the morning works better than anything I’ve ever tried in my morning routine. I was doing up to 20 minutes a day for awhile and the effects last for hours. Sharper and wide awake without the need for reliance on substances to get me going.

Yeah I've never understood why people want to suppress cortisol
Its worse than that in the bio-hacking community, this community is promoting supplements to lower cortisol while at the same time protocols to increase cortisol to increase energy/dopamine. Its ass backwards.

thank you for sharing this wisdom can you please give us an example of how this is being demonstrated? i mean this with sincerity, what protocols increase protocol that would be counter productive to the initial pursuit of them decreasing cortisol levels?

Simple example, fasting, fasting is leveraging cortisol. Essentially placing your body under a mild stressor in exchange for energy. Cold showers are in the same boat, caffeine, arguably, on an empty stomach with its increase on metabolism can also elicit a stress response.

I sincerely ask this 100% respectfully …

Are a Ray Peat follower?

Just curious that’s all b/c what you are sharing is what he and the whole BioEnergetic movement espouses (bioenergetic theory of health).

I find his work fascinating to say the least and compelling at times.

Some of the supplements huberman gets way into seem a bit overhyped Ecydsteriods (sp?) I think it was. He was basing his high opinion based on one study which was never replicated if I remember correct. I am sure he is smart but I think the benefits he espouses with regards to real world results don’t always match up.

Lmfao, I am actually amazed you came to that conclusion based off two posts and I didn't even mention sugar. I am somewhat a follower yes, but more in a think for yourself kind of way. I read his work, and stay far away from the forum that co-opted his name. I stumbled upon his stuff after I started looking at short-comings in Western medicine and allopathy.

Before someone asks, the problem in the West I find is these specialists staring at one tiny facet of a person and extrapolating outwards, Daniel Kahneman talks about this often the focusing illusion, essentially what you spend your time thinking about is what you think is important. Seems trite at the surface but huge implications and why you should take every 'experts' advice with a grain of salt, Huberman thinks morning sunlight is the end all be all, spoilers people live pretty far from the equator and have done so for a very long time. Mathew Walker is obsessed and fear mongers lack of sleep, says getting an extra hour of sleep is like taking steroids. Ronda Patrick has says some weird stuff too, they all have.

I am just saying everyone has a bias, think for yourself, stop trying to min-max life. Look at life holistically, we have a cultural bias to look at things certain ways and have to constantly remind ourselves to take a step back and look at the big picture.

Lol. Not bad huh? Too funny Lol

I thoroughly enjoy just about every piece of content Georgi Dinkov puts out hence the connection lol.

& amen to the rest of your post! Spot on Ace!

Be a bit wary of Georgi too, he interprets studies in a weird way, but also a huge supplement pusher meanwhile Ray was against almost all supplements (contaminants). I only realized this because he talked about the cola androgen study and I actually happened to have done a homework assignment on the same study haha

I like Huberman and think he’s incredibly intelligent but I do agree that he’s almost pushing TOO MUCH info now.

His discussion on THC, nicotine, creativity, alcohol, fasting, sleep, etc are all great. But some of the others (and interviews) are off. He’s a bio hacking guru, that’s it. Some cool info. But his discussions on fat loss and muscle building, nah I’m good. Bring on some actually knowledgeable guys.

He also gives a bit too many “daily recommendations.” I get it, it’s shareable content. But “5 things u must do every morning!” “10 things that are 100% necessary for your daily routine.” Wayyy too many of those.

Lol. Small world. Crazy.

Thanks for the heads up. He has his own supp and research chems line so that always warrants a modicum of cynicism.

As you wisely conveyed in an earlier post; just try to learn all you can, remain objective/unbiased/open-minded and certainly critical - and form your own thoughts rooted in doing your due diligence with regard to research.

It’s all we can do with all the BS that goes on; which very much includes very impressive con artists and salesmen.

Don’t listen to authoritarian views, finding the information yourself, learning yourself is part of the growth and freedom.
Perceive, think, act.
