While it is pretty darn hard to ban food and getting your B6 is not a big challenge from a dietary perspective the idea that a common nutrient can be monopolized by a pharmaceutical company in the US is odd at best. While I could understand that they certainly have a right to patent their process I do not understand how they can patent the result.

They are going after all 3 forms. 2 other companies filed for them already.
I'll see if I can find the link. What's disturbing is what has taken place.
The is always a way around this though as they have a form of niacin as a drug NIASPAN **broken link removed** and Pharmaceutical Omega 3's as well (formerly Omacor) now renamed http://www.lovaza.com/ but we still have niacin and fish oils stocking the shelves.
This isn't a post to make everyone go out and buy B-6, just an outline for the shocking things coming down the pipe in the next decade with dietary supplements and their OTC use.
