Well yesterday I went into a specialist to correct my veins in my leg. He is a Certified Plastic Surgeon. I learned a lot while seeing him 2 visits. 1 out of every 2 over 50 have some kind of vein problems, wether it be varicose, spider or deep vein. The method he used was to inject something into the veins to destroy it and let the blood flow to other veins.

It only took about 20 minutes and 3 injections, in and out. The cost was minimum at $500. He used ultrasound and told me that my blood flow was running backwards in the veins. That could have deadly potential. I am limping a little today, but not unbearable. The more I walk, the less i feel it. I have to wear a compression sock for 1 week. I was told to avoid pressing moments, like squats for 10 days.

I can workout upper body, no problem and do light leg extentions and leg curls. I will keep you updated on recovery. he told me they will go away in aprox. 3 months and I follow up in 1 month. I am just happy I am on my way to recovery. :)

This is good information. Thanks for sharing.
I am 50 with vein problems. I wondered how big of deal it would be to fix or if they could be treated.

I hope you recover quickly.

Is the sock to help prevent clots?

It impressive what doctors can do medically these days.

Good luck with your recovery mate

Basically, but it is meant for helping the healing process.

i have a huge varicose vein in my calf and im only 31. went to see a vein specialist and he told me veins were too close to nerves for him to do sclerotheray. he said to wait 6 months for new technique which seems to be what you had, an injection to seal off the problematic vein with imcompetent valve.

can you please tell me which doc you went to see...hopefully its somewhere in the southern area of the sunny state.

thanks.

That is how it started with me, in the exact same area. It evidentually led to a blood clot. I would be concerned with it. He is located in Bakersfield CA. The name of the center is South Valley Vein. His name is Gregory Willaims. Bakersfield Vein Treatment: South Valley Vein Center

Hey Pesty I'm glad the procedure went off without a hitch! I'd like to learn more about the blood flowing backwards...I'll Google it, but can you elaborate on that?

Basically it means you are not getting proper blood flow. It means it is clogging up in that area and not circulating properly through the vein. Here is a great article that explains everything. I am happy to hear you are on the mend. I'm a few months away from 50. Something else wonderful to think about.

Unfortunately this appears to be fairly common. Men and women and many well under 50. I believe JT had a thread not too long ago about his vein procedure.

Keep up the healing
