Genetic balance....
For the competitors here:
Does anyone have the same trouble that I have???.... when I cut for a show my upper body gets lean as Hell long before my legs come around. It drives me crazy!! For the Mr. Natural Iowa show in 2000, I hit the 3% BF mark, but I carried it all in my hammies and calves... yet my upper body looked ridiculous. Does it take more time or how do you get everything to come around? Is it a water problem maybe... or just my genetics? I fear that I am losing muscle mass in my upper body while I diet harder to try and get my legs up to par.....
Please remember now that I'm talking about natural competitions... no drugs.
Here's a pic from that show:

I have the same problem. My workout partner, on the other hand, is opposite with his legs coming in way ahead of his upper body. The problem is that with all of the cardio that you have to do to lose weight, your legs suffer (I think). They seem to loose size without gaining any significant definition.
Your legs won't show as much definition because of all of the blood in them from all of the cardio. So, for a real assessment, look at them in the morning before you eat or anything. But, it seems to me that definition (I think that is what you are refering to) will come in time. Like it's easier to get your legs to the same condition as they were last year (at not as hard of an effort) but then you have to improve them by putting in extra effort by extra cardio or extra stretching (sissy squats) and contracting exercises (extension, step up).
Also, cut out your cardio one full week before the contest. Once you drop the water, you will have even more definition.
Good luck,
Mr Florida

Water
Mr. Flordia is right, cardio is bad thing i think. I had to do way to much last time and ended up flat and watery. For me this time i am trying to cut cardio about 4 weeks out. My legs are always better than upper body in terms of cuts, so I am sure it a genitic thing to a degree.
Just a note, for natural show, guy next to you has a bit of gyno going on there. Natural should say, can pass a drug test, big difference. Not a flame by the way just my 2 cents.

Thanks folks... I did figure out the cardio thing for my last show... I stopped about a week out and it DID help. My legs "dried up" a little. I guess genetics are a big part of it. It just makes the game that much harder.
By the way, that guy next to me is 50 years old.... we called him "Grandpa" in the gym... lol. I'm pretty sure he's natty. The organizations I have competed in (NANBF and NGA) are lifetime natural orgs... they do piss tests before the show and then polygraph the top 3 competitors.... so I suppose if you can lie, you can get by... lol. And everything is banned in those orgs... diuretics, andros, pro-hormones... you name it.
But, I'm gonna have to settle for NPC shows from now on, cause I kinda cheated a little... I hope to again REALLY soon. LMAO!
Thanks for the input
