Good exercises for people with herniated discs (my mom)?

My mother had a herniated disc like 10 years ago. She had surgery. She has gotten quite out of shape lately and I really wanted to get her in shape. She had already gone to the gym quite often and had had a good trainer before (bodybuilder), but I suspected she wasn't pushing herself. So I trained her and she was sore like a newbie.

A. Will she see really good fat loss like I did when I first started weight training?
B. Will her back pain from the disc injury lessen as her back muscles get stronger?
C. What exercises will be most effective at making her back stronger?

Lately I've been having her do cable wide grip lat pull downs, rows of some kind, double dumbbell bicep curl.

I have her doing basically what I do. Back/bi, Chest/Tri/Shoulder, Legs

Our workouts are pretty thorough. 45 mins or so. I work her hard. I know she has what it takes to get in shape cuz I've seen her do it. She gained all the weight after the divorce.

Any tips on training her? I'm just trying to shock her body with the weight training to get her weight down, which worked for me in the past. She's 5'5'' or so, a little over 200 pounds. I've never gotten a woman like her in shape. I'm just training with her like I would another dude. She usually does 15 or so reps with the weight I put for her. I'm gonna try and get that number down really soon and keep the intensity up. She can't do cardio for long. I'm just worried about her back.
