if i cant do normal squats, are they a good substitute.
i have heard some peole say it works the inner part of the quad more than the outer/beef part of the quad???
 
I prefer Shaq squats.

Why can't you do normal squats?

Hacks are good, so are leg presses.
 
Training DC style I used Hack Squats, Free Squat, and Leg Press. Hack squats are great and really allow you to get deep helping your outer sweep. You can still go really heavy with them too.
 
I have a problem with my hip, which prohibits me from going parallell with free squats, but i can do them just fine in the smith machine because of the different foot placement it allows.

the smith can be hard on your knees though if you don't do it right.. but done right, i prefer it over hack squats any day, it's the closest i can get to a real squat.

my form is terrible. i have tried and tried to nail it bit its still rubish. i end up leaning forward and turns in to abit of a 'good morning', but more importantly i can lose my balance and just roll forward.

plus i train by myself and no-one knows how to spot properly, they end up holding my hips and just pushin me forward even more.

tried smith machine instead, but to much pressure on my lower back.

so i have been sticking to hacks, and more recently, leg press.
 
post a video, maybe we can help.

shame to give up on a great exercise just because your form sucks.
 
I use the smith & I have pretty good legs. I like it because I can have a narrow stance & focus on my legs & lean back as well. No back issues...
 
I hurt myself doing regular squats awhile back letting my ego get the best of my and switched to the smith machine for about six months after that. Got some good results doing squats and split squats (or smith lunges). Now that I've recovered and went back to light weight regular squats (still trying to get the old form back and not allowing the ego to win this time) I think I like them better. But also use hack squats which can yeild impressive results. There are many ways to get your legs to grow just make sure you push yourself and keep good form on whatever exercises you choose to do.
 
If you lift your heels or put a block under....that may stop your knee pain...

hacks are great as a SECONDARY or SUPPLEMENTAL excercise.....

I did them on my light days to save the lower back from the heavy day's.....a great way to pump also...
 
Hack squats are good b/c core is still activated. Leg press is good for isolating legs.

Reg Squats is the single BEST exercise to add mass and strength.

I love squatting. I just hit 600 for 3 ass to ankles last night. I've never had any problems with my knees.

That said, I recently tried adding in machine hack squats as a variation since I'm doing DC. Instant knee pain. I thought I might have done something wrong so I tried them for a second workout. Same result. It's back to free squats for me.

shit bro you do not need anything more then them squats we see you do. you should post a video of it.
by the way guys he uses no belt, no wraps, nothing.
