How many of you have a training partner vs. train alone?

Just curious how many train alone vs. those that train with a partner.

What do you see as the advantages of each? (I expect some predicable answers here and maybe some suprises)
 
Partner

Not since college when I had 100% control of my schedule. Married, kids and job make time very tight. If a training partner is 15 minutes late it really sucks.
 
I have partner about half the time. Not because he is only motivated 50% of the time....just because of his work schedule. Mixed feelings about training w/ someone. On one side you push each other.....which I think is a good thing. On the flip side...the training sessions seem to last longer.:rolleyes:
 
I'd like to have a training partner, but I don't personally know many people who train in a similar fashion, unfortunately.

I use to train alone years ago, but it has probably been about 6 or more years now that Mainevent and I have trained together. (Gawd has it been that long!!!)

Advantages- We keep each other focused on form, give each other the evil eye when we put one plate too may on (thinking about the weights more than the benefits), keep each other motivated and have a lot of fun, even when we are in contest prep mode. And we gab like crazy during treadmill time which really passes the time fast.

Disadvantages- I travel a good bit for work and don't seem to get the same results when I am training alone anymore and OH ....... and unloading all the weight he puts on so I can do my set!

I think a training partner would be a good thing ONLY if that person can mimic your intensity. Ive worked out with guys before that i thought got a better workout because of me, but mine was actually worse because of them. Im selfish now. Ill only workout with guys that are more advanced then me and I can leach off THEIR intensity :cool:

That being said, i rarely have one anyways though, and its for the most common reason- scheduling
 
I train alone. My gf spots me every now and then. There aren't any real bbers in my gym. Everyone wants that gay ass hollywood look at my gym. :rolleyes:
 
Most days of the week I trained with my wife...once or twice a week I train with buddy of mine. The funny thing is my wife pushed me just as hard as the next guy, but there are days I like training with my buddy.
 
Alone

Finding someone with the same work ethic, intensity and schedule as myself is near impossible.

That being said, I'd love to have someone there to push limits and let me know when I'm dogging it which I sometimes do.
 
Tried 3 times and all of them failed. I don't even try to find anyone to workout with and refuse when a new one asks.
 
I train with my wife. I've tried various people in the past and they would show up late, not show at all or complain they were sore etc. etc... My wife is always on time, never complains and trains harder than most of my past training partners.
 
I train alone ! I just use spots for my heavy benching and squatting!
 
My training partner outweighs my by 25lbs of actual muscle. So I'm constantly forced to use the same weight on most movements. I may get less reps, but it damn sure keeps me growing. When I started training with him I was about 185lbs, now 3 years later I've reached 220lbs at less BF%. I have made him realize he has to push harder to stay ahead of me.
And the "unloading the plates" thing is great!! When we happen to not workout togehter it damn sure makes me wish he was there to help unload.:D
 
I much rather train alone personally. I feel like training with someone else slows me down. I trained with my GF for a little while which wasn't all that bad but, I still much rather go solo
 
I train alone...I don't care to wait on anyone, nor carry on a conversation on the latest/greatest training systems, who did what to whom etc. I can see the need from time to time of the advantage of having someone for a spot...but generally I'll use a Smith or Hammer Strength for those movements that would need a spot.

I enjoy closing off my world to any and all distractions and tear it up. But that's just me...
 
i train with my twin brother. if it wasnt for him i could never train with anyone else
 
Alone. timing is a problem. Never know when im gonna get in there. would be nice to have a partner sometimes for chest and leg days
 
Back in the day when I was still wet behind the ears I trained alone till a couple months out from a show I would have my wife help out which turned out for the best...now I'm in my late 40's and trying a comeback back into BBing, my wife is now my training partner, which again is the best thing for me. She knows what to do, how much I need to lift, reps etc, etc... can't complain.
 
My training partner is my best friend

The guy I train with is like my brother man. We have gone through our diets together, we bulk together, we compete together. He calls me to tell me about his problems, I call him to vent about mine. He's there to tell me "dude, take a step back and calm down, its the gear talking." I've been there to tell him the same thing. He is every bit as enthusiastic about muscle and the gym as I am. There has been times when I was piss broke, and he would show up at the gym with a jug of protien powder for me, or amino acids and vitamins. "I want to get big together bro, dont worry about it, just take it!!" The guy is truely a great friend, trust him with my life. Thats hard to come by
