last week there was another round of layoffs within my company.
Like other industries, the new home building industry has been experiencing this for about three years now...Can be stressful..I've seen people so nervous and really freaked out for past year that they have aged.
Its not a great feeling to see co-workers/friends and very talented people being let go, due to the slow real estate market ...But I'm still there...I should feel really happy, but its just a job...One thing I've done is prepare myself....I have a back up plan, or plans....I was not ever worried, not because I think It couldnt happen to me, that would mean I've been living under a rock for three years....
I encourage others to think about back up plans, to think about going to school, learning a new skill..There are many opportunities out there, even now. You reallly have to think positive and believe you will be ok...then do something..don't let things happen, make it happen..don't wait for a call, you make the call, don't send your resume out over the internet...Companys are overwhelmed with those, and are not even looking at them.
Make a connection, get in someones face, make yourself stand out...look your best and prepare.
This is my tip for you who are either going through this with your company, or have gone through it...don't worry, don't stress. You are in control of the rest of your life
