Okay i have been dealing with my trap muscle knotts (strains) for what seems like years probably three four weeks now tho and they WILL NOT heal all the way and i have lost alot of muscle (just in my mind probably) and so i go to the doctor he says yep muscle trains got three knotts up here and you should take flexeril 10mgs at night and be fine soon but take it easy

SO i did what he said but it STILL WILL NOT go away and i refuse to just sit around for months while i gain all my weight back and my hard earned work go to freaking waste cause of astrained muscle! What kind of doctor do i need to see maybe a sports one? im seriously to the point where im going to just say fuck it and workout on it until it does what it has to do cause i DONT think this will ever heal up it is completely messing up my thought and im to the point where i am almost convinced to just wont heal

any ideas for doctors methods of training or just plain advice on it this does not seem correct a strain should take this long to freaking heal

and yes i did start a thread once before on this but shit has changed for the worse and have no clue whats going on....

Take the flexeril, its a muscle relaxer bro...Go get yourself a deep tissue massage a few days a week. Alternate between ice and heat on the pulled muscle(s). Also use a topical anagelsic like flex-all454....

man i have done all that brother it wont heal...if i knew for sure i could workout on it without tearing the muscle i would gladly workout and deal the pain later im just scared of tearing it and does flexeril do anything for the knott itself like loosen it? or is it just for the pain?

Sorry so many questions i just seem lost and everybody around me keeps saying yeah mine has hurt for months i just deal with it and stop working out and im sorry but not working for months is not a option for me. As u can probably see this injury is taking a strain on me mentally i am down no energy and barely eat.....

its a muscle relaxer, it supposed to relieve tension due to stress...if you are that concerned, ask for an MRI.

my 2 cents

if it's not getting better by not working the traps i think i would just start working it for high reps with moderate weight. maybe 225 for 5 sets of 20 on the shrugs.

tom

sorry i deleted post...but anyways yes i just did a search and read alot of articles on it it sounds like i have to do what dtown said and get a mri cause it may take up to six months to heal if its a grade three the article said and doctors cant make a good choice unless i take a mri

healing...

bro, hate to break it to you but the reason it wont heal is that you aint letting it heal. letting it heal means stop lifting, at least heavy. do lots of repetition with light weight to keep some of your gains and your definition, get your deep tissue massages etc etc, but bottom line LET YOUR WOUND HEAL.

I know you dont want to lose all your gains. I had the same situation a few years back. Tore my supraspinatus (sorry about the spelling -- basically one of the muscles around the rotator cuff). Hurt like hell pushing anything, opening doors, let alone lifting weight. I had just come off a cycle with great gains and bang, injury. Went to a chiropractor, doctor, you name it, tried everything to make it heal MINUS stopping lifting so i could keep my gains. I eventually cut down to lifting only ONCE a week and it still wouldnt fully heal. Then i went to disney world for 2 weeks and sure it enough it healed shortly thereafter. :D

Every BODY is different bro. Maybe yours will heal quicker than mine did, and I sure hope so. But dont count on it too much. Every bodybuilder and professional athlete injures himself at one point or another. Lee Priest missed the Mr. O this year coz he tore both his biceps while carrying a TV. ;) So just deal with it. you will probably injure yourself a few more times in your career. So let your body heal. he will thank you for it, and trust me bro, the gains come back VERY quickly. :)

dabeast75 i was doing the once a week lifting like u did and i guess i will just have to take week off and use this time to cut down BF and increase cardio...but ya i will take off a entire week or two :( from lifting and i just run (running should be okay right i dont see how it could bother my trap) and like u said let it completely heal..

Also dabeast75 how long did yours take? i think two weeks COMPLETELY off weights just treadmill and low carbs (cause i wont need much if im not doing anything) should heal it good....damnnnn :(

if its knots

get your girl to stand her heel on it.....and dig a few times

man it just SOUNDS like nothing.....really

maybe im wrong:(

good luck

I think it's probably a little disrespectful to call your doctor retarded, especially considering your grammar, spelling, and complete lack of punctuation. The run-on sentences are hard on both the eyes and the brain.

Pot.. Kettle.

Now, how old are you? I bet 16

jrs

You my friend are a top notch jerk to put it graciously. I was irritated with the lack of healing my muscle was producing within this time frame. As far as grammar goes I actually can speak exceptionally well when attempting to. Not in a rush to get an idea of what has happened, and members of this great boards intuitive opinions on my problem at hand. Now my age is none of your business but no sir it is not sixteen like the behavior you showed attempting to attack me. The only part of what you have said I agree with is the doctor part. In my frustration on the injury I am dealing with I misplaced my bad energy. ;)

Yes, I am a top-notch jerk. I am also correct most of the time. No worries, I can understand being frustrated. I just hate seeing disrespect towards those who are trying to help others.

rest rest rest. stay hydrated and eat right (which you're probably doing already). i doubt it's a 'severe' strain/tear. if it was, you wouldn't be able to contract that muscle without crippling pain. if it's just a strain, the only way for it to heal is rest and proper nutrition (which plays a BIG part in healing).

continue taking the flexeril. it won't 'heal' the muscle, but it will help the muscle stay relaxed as injured muscles have a tendency to contract on their own (spasm) which prevents it from healing any faster. as for HOW flexeril works, this is a quick something i found from a website on back pain:

"How Does It Work?
It is not clear as to how exactly Flexeril works to relieve muscle spasms. However, it is known that it mostly works in the brain stem, not in the spinal cord and not directly on the muscles. The medication only works to relieve muscle spasms caused by problems in the muscles; it does not help with muscle spasms caused by problems in the brain or spinal cord"

hope you start feeling better soon, bro

(no pun to Phil) but they say Drs know a little about a lot.. In this day and age its wise to go Dr shopping. I hate to admit I do blood panel Interpretation that is NOT my job. But its unfortunate that the doctors cannot help most, if a drug cannot fix it, then its not fixable. This is the break down in the system and where I step in If needed. Some doctors have a real passion for what they do, find these... I am for sure not a Dr, or claim to be one. I do my best to fill in the voids, that's all. But we are at a point where we cannot trust our own government at this point its time to make a decision on the direction to head. Personally I am done with US health care at a legal level.
What next manifest is destined to be.

dgarr21,

I have had problems similiar to yours, and more. I also had my rhomboids strained for very long periods of time. My dr. also gave me flexeril, but I went to my chiro as well. A lot of my muscle pulls/spasms were do to my spine being out of alignement, it was a vicious cycle. I would go to the chiro get relief, and go back to the gym and i would be back at square one. ALl i can say is work through it, TRY and train light, and try to skip some exercises that may be aggravating it. I had tremendous pain at times, but i eventually worked it all out. Hate to say it, but it finally went away after i took about 6 months off due to an injury.

rope rehab...

This more for the shoulder, rotator cuff etc. but it may help you. Did wonders for my shoulders.

Get a 4 foot piece of rope and hold it with a wide grip w the rope touching your waist. rotate it around to touch the small of your back and then slowly work between front and back. Work up to 3-4 sets of 25 reps. you can then get a more narrow grip and do it. The range of motion will improve and you will see reduced pain in the shoulder almost immediately.

I would do the deep tissue massage and for me, muscle relaxers didn't do squat.

exactly bro. Just take some time off. Maybe a week. Maybe 2 or more. But lifting just once a week aggravated my injury at the time. i prevented myself from healing. So if i were you i would just keep it light and do lots of cardio. Dont worry about those few pounds that you will drop. You will get them back as soon as your injury has healed.

EVERLAST has it exactly right. That movement he describes DEFINITELY helped a lot with my injury. good stuff. got that from a chiropracter though, NOT A DOC. My honest opinion is that docs dont do much good these days. You have to find a good one and that takes a bit of shopping. Not all are jerks, but most of them are quick to prescribe a pill and it pretty much ends there.

Thank you all for your great responses you posted concerning my problem. Everlast, I shall try these workouts, and dabeast I will also take at least a weeks time off.
