Can i borrow 15$ from you?

A man got late home from work, tired and irratable. at the door his 5 year old son was waiting.

Son: "Dad, can i ask you something?"

Dad: "Of course, what did you want to ask?"

Son: "Dad, how much do you earn in an hour?"

Dad: "That doesn't concern you! why would you ask that?" The man said, angrily.

Son: "I just wanted to know. Could you please tell me?"

Dad: "If you must know I get paid 35$ an hour."

Son: "ahh", said the son and looked down at the floor. "could i borrow 15$ from you?"

The dad got really angry. "If you wanted to know how much I made just so you can buy a stupid toy, then you can go right to your room and go to bed. Think about how stupid you are! I don't work all day, so you can go out and buy stupid stuff!"

The kid went silently into his room and closed the door.

The man went over to sit down in his chair and got more and more angry over his sons question. "How dare he ask how much I make just so he can get money"

After about an hour the man calmed down and started to think about it.

Maybe the kid really needed that money to buy something important, and he usually never asks for any money. The man went to the kid bedrooms door, and knocked on it and opened it.

"Are you awake?" he asked.

"Yes, dad I am." said the kid

"I have thought about it, and maybe I over reacted" said the man. "it has been a long day and unfortunately i took my anger out on you. Here take the 15$ you asked to borrow."

The kid got up fast and smiled and yelled: "Thanks a lot, dad!" then he put his hand under his pillow and pulled out a roll of bills.

When his dad noticed that his son already had money, he started to get angry again.

His son slowly started to count the money and looked up at his dad.

"Why would you ask for money when you already had some!" rumbled his dad.

"Because i didn't have enough, but I do now!" said the son. "Dad, now i have 35$. Can i buy 1 hour of your time, because then you can get home earlier tomorrow and eat dinner with us?"

His Dad was crushed. And took his arms around him and asked for forgiveness.

even though I have no kids, after a rough day.. that made me smile.

I was wondering where that story was going, cool ending.

People always had this notion my family was rich and my dad never saw me and my sister. He worked 60 hours a week, every week, from nearly the time I was born up until his plant laid everyone off about two months ago. So 20+ years easily (not giving my age away ;) ). He ALWAYS made time for the family though, even working 60+ hours a week. Never missed a baseball, soccer, or football game, made every single one of my track meets (even state 4 hours away), etc. Guess I was a lucky one.

Working now as an adult I realized just how damn much it sucks to do that, but it must have been worth it to him because it sure as hell was for me. I'll be in the same boat with my future children (none YET). I had enough friends that didn't know their parents and never went to their sporting events, they were crushed. Family dinner? Yeah right. My family became their family after many years, still is to this day.

I think he taught me two valuable lessons doing that. 1. How to be a good son. 2. How to be a good father. Never realized that until a few months ago when we thought we were going to have a child, but it was a false positive. Just hit me one day like "damn...dad already taught me how to be a father....I'll be ok".

Never, ever take things for granted!! How true this story is.

Absolutly nothing comes before my family.
I had heard that story some years ago and it has always stuck with me especaily now that I have kids , My dad always made sure that we all sat down and ate dinner as a family , to disscuss our day and catch up as a family in general , of course their are things that come up that don't always allow that but its rare.

Man I heard that before but forgot about it...

Shit bro that really gets to me...i know this past year with my job and all it was always about money workin 7 days a week and bein pissed alot.

Thank God that let up..hopefully i didnt make my friends and family feel like that. And yea I think everyone should read this cuz Im sure everyone has done somethin like the dad here on some level. Really gets you thinkin...thanks deadly

I was making triple what I make now back in 05'-06', and I was absolutely miserable!! Very good story, I like that

Wow just hearing that makes me glad i changed careers while my daughter is very young so ill never have to hear that. awesome.

Great story, and Booger, congrats on the recognizing. I think that one of the positive sides to this "recession" is their is a mini trend to rethink ones life. I have multiple friends that are making major changes to refocus on family and quality of life. Some are being forced to, and some are doing it willingly. I had friend purchase a new multi million home a year ago, I had never visited although I've received multiple invitations. He insisted this week, so I visited and was duly impressed. The reason he was insisting is that he is selling it next month, and wanted me to see it and help reduce his wine cellar stock.:D

He can afford it. He is not making money now but has a lifetimes worth in the bank. He and his wife decided that they did not want their two young girls to grow up in that environment. He and his wife did not, and are humble people.

I think in the not to distant future, having the two Mercedes, the 10,000 sqft home, and "keeping ahead of the Jones's" will be looked down on as a waste of resources instead of the ultimate goal. That is not a bad thing.

The above story captures that sentiment.

Wow, that is definitely a touching little story.

I wish i could spend more time with my son.

The older i get the more i realize that the most valued asset is time.

I thought that was gonna end in some smart ass remark by the son, but wow! I never saw that one coming. That really had me almost in tears. Very beautiful message and well worth knowing I am a dad and how NOT to jump to conclusions with my kids any more.

7_Deadly_Sins AWESOME JOB MY FRIEND!

Thanks for that 7 Deadly....I have a 2 year old son that only wants to be with me no matter what i do. And I do find myself feeling the same way as the father in the story at the beging.
Just made me stop and think how blessed i am to have a healthy amazing little guy that just wants time with his daddy.

thanks again

Thanks for posting that! This really hit home for me as I have been putting in alot of hours as of late getting ready for my companys busy season and have been finding my temper getting short with my family. I know all they really want is time with me but sometimes I forget that.

That's what I call an optimistic nature, PK! :p ;)

Am I the only one that read that and wondered why the dad was such an ass to his son? I don't care how bad you day is at work I am a firm believer that you leave it at the front door when you get home. I guess I don't have a lot of sympathy for a person that would need their child to do something like that to realize how special their child is.
