is a keto diet mandatory for some individuals to get to single digit bf%?

my body type is ectomorph so i stay fairly lean naturally and my diet is always clean with fairly low carbs with about 80% of them coming from fruits and veggies the other 20% from whole grains and oats. with that said, i just cant get rid of the little bit of spare fat around my midsection. to be honest its not like i have given 100% bc like i said im pretty lean and im usually focusing on gaining/maintaining size but ive decided to try to get as lean as possible. im just not sure what steps to take so any advice would be much appreciated.

Lyle McDonald

pretty much believes so. His Ketogenic Diet and Ultimate Diet/2.0 go into this a lot. It's kinda funny b/c he wrote something to the point of, and I'm paraphrasing here, " . . . anyone reading these books, asking how to lower their bf much lower than 12% . . . these are the people that need to run the ketogenic type diets."

He was basically saying that good genetics would get you were you wanted to be, or at least a majority of the way as far as really low bf, and that you wouldn't even ask or be searching how to drop it b/c it would come so easily due to your genetics. According to Lyle, the rest of us have to run a keto diet to get bf down to contest/athlete levels.

I might be something as simple as upping your cardio first, before changing up your diet...

thats where it gets confusing...i hear many respected members on this board say cardio isnt even needed. as of now i take a 20-30 min jog 2-3 times a week and im willing to up that but if diet is more important then i just want to make sure im not spinning my wheels doing the cardio.

thanks for the replies.

im really considering just hiring a trainer.

Sounds to me the Ultimate Diet 2.0 might be more suitable for your needs as mentioned above, it will certainly drop your bodyfat and make some lean gains, it is a very clever diet but must be followed pretty closely, by the book. Either that or hire a decent respected trainer which is a very smart move also imo

the reason why you get different answers is because everyone's body + body chem is different, and different people have easier time doing different things. Are you really heavily time constrained so you can't do more cardio? have joint issues? then ketogenic diets are likely better. Do you have problems with energy + concentration when not taking in enough carbs? do you loose strength rapidly on low carbs? then raising cardio levels is probably the better idea.

Try a keto diet for a month, but commit to it for at least that long. It will possibly take the first week to go into ketosis if you've never done it before

Not for me

def doesn't work for me. I get much faster and more solid results going moderate carb/high protien/ super low fats. The only fat I get right now is whats in lean steaks, no peanut butter, no flax, nothing else. This is the first time I've tried cutting out almost all fats and it's working well. My body stays hot all the time, the scale steadily moves, and everything continues looking pumped and full. I only do cardio high intensity 2-3x/wk for 30 min/session, more to stimulate metabolism. I've heard it best from a couple people b4, either let the diet shed the fat, or the cardio, but going overkill on both wont do you any justice. And the other guy, (I think from this board) if your doing low carb diet and are no longer hungry, low carb isn;t for you

DONT stay low fat too long, natural hormone production all comes from the hormone cascade which starts with your saturated fat intake. so keep a close eye on it, and if you have to push fats in general even lower but replace some of it with coconut oil as its the healthiest saturated fat
