I had time to think about this for a day or two and just because they gave it to Dexter (for one time and one time only) Doesn't mean that size is gone as a standard for the O and we are headed back to the 1990's.

I will agree Dexter deserved the win (humbly over Phil) but Dexter hasn't done anything spectacular with his physique in 4-5 years.

What the hell can I really say though? Ronnie won with no calves so did Dex Yates won with half his body missing. Same with Jay couldn't make any improvements really till 2006. Now we have Phil Heath on a murderous rise and Dennis Wolf and Tony Freeman and in the shadows the 2007 real Mr O Victor Martinez.

Dennis Wolf was way too dry, and not big enough. Denny can afford another 30 lbs and not get the waist up trust me, he gets the calves and back up (we already know he can get conditioned) Phil's gonna have a hard time with him. Denny's young and gunning for the top with the best prep guy in the business.

X-man Freeman showed up in his best ever shape at his advanced age as well so don't look for him to X down to 250, more like X up to 280-290 shredded for next year-coming down from 315 or so off season.

Victor and Phil scare me. Both have so much potential-Phil just scratching his and a fully recovered Victor with rest and Chad on his side? Damn scary but don't expect him to come in under 250 either, to beat Phil and Dexter he will have to do it on mass with symmetry and conditioning-so look for Victors off season weight to climb in the 280's +.

Phil Phil Phil Mr Heath my # 2 choice for O, hell I even had him in first. If he takes a year off, trains basic and heavy and gets up to 275-285 and holds it for a few months and then brings it down it's game over for everyone, he'll be about 245-248 shredded wheat on stage and it's bye bye to everyone.

mark my words.....

I agree, once Heath hits his stride... it will be like Big Ron's. LIGHTS OUT

I'm totally agree Massive.
2009 will be an explosive Olympia, one of the best since a long time

Massive ~ I agree with everything bro. I hope Phil keeps his eye on his waist thou and bombs his delts and the WOLF will need to back off on his extreme prep ala BIG Dorian and he'll be a full 10 to 15 lbs heavier in 2009 and blow our minds next year!!

I believe big WOLF will be howling for the top spot at the Arnold for sure!

Can't wait to see Victor & the return of "THE PRIEST".. It's going to be awesome..

Thank u it always gonna be size.

SUPER SIZE!!!!!!!!!!

Thats the problem I have with dex, he looks the same. Every champ has made big improvements every year. The wow factor is not there. I don't believe this was a good O. I hope Vic makes a comeback bigger than ever.

Yes but at least he looks great... the same maybe but great nontheless!

You're not judged based on your improvments, but on what you look like on the D-Day compared to others. Nothing else should matter.

And btw, if you guys think at Dexter's level and after so many years in this game you can still put on 10 solid lbs a year, I don't know what to tell you...

Has Jay improved since 2006? Obviously not...

If you're not young and "fresh" with only a few years of extreme BB habits, ie if you're not like Heath, Wolf or Dave Henry, don't expect to come in heavier and more shredded year after year for a decade.

Like Ronnie did? He looked the same as he has for years, how come he wasn't crowned in the last few years? Maybe the comp...

wasn't never hoping to go back to a lil guys sport ala frank zane but i was hoping that the new era of mr. olympias would at least have a taper and not built like a refrigerator

heres something else that i would like to add, for all those saying that dexter is a horrible ambassidor or representitive of the sport and jay is our savior, well your living in a fucking la la land dream world!! All of the world knows what these guys do to get the size they have and all of the world knows thats its illegal. So what kind of ambassidor are you actually fucking hoping for??? get real people jay and the rest of the people in bodybuilding are breaking the law and will never ever ever ever be accepted by mainstream or even remotely close to mainstream.. GET OVER IT.. we don't need an ambassidor we just need a guy with a sick physique wich as far as im concerned (for all our safety) needs to stay underground as much as possible.. YA DIG

Massive, you are correct. There is no new era, only a new Mr. Olympia in Dexter Jackson. he is the interim Mr. O until next year. These guys that are moving through the ranks right now are the new era. Bigger, freakier, but with a streamlined midsection instead of block abs, and wide waists. Dexter was the best man on the day as far as asthetics goes. Jay should not have won last year either but that is history. Victor, Phil, Dennis and a few others will be making the big noises next year. I do think that next years Olympia will be the freak show of them all. We will see some spectacular big physiques walk across the stage to set the new standard fopr mass and symmetry and it is about time. I love the mass monsters, but at the cost of symmetry NO! Keep the guts in, the tapers big, wide flaring lats that run down to a 32" waist! (well close anyway)lol And that is what makes for a freak. Not a 38" waist that obscures your lats when you hit the ab/thigh pose. The new kids on the block will reign supreme next year and they will be big! Mass is about to be redefined just as when Lee Haney redefined it so many years ago and set the standard for size, so too will these new guys.

Untrue to an extent. Yes they know. BUT, lemme ask you this. How many advantages in life do you have because you are big? How many people just wanna know you because you are the jacked big guy. Wanna be your buddy, hang out with you, etc....How many people gawk at you. You are bigger than me and i damn sure get it alot. Imagine being Mr. O. People just feel privilaged when you pay attention to them.

Do you work out?
How much you bench?
How do i look like you?
Can you help me get in shape?

All excuses to talk to those of us who push the envelope and get big. The more personable the top bodybuilders become, the better off the sport will be. I go to the damn grocery store and get people tryin to feel my arms or making comments about my size. Just IMAGINE the attention the pro's get. This could be taken advantage of in a very positive way, little by little, if we had the right guys near the top with the right attitude.

Itl never be mainstream, but it would be alot more than what it is. There are alot of people out there who dont even know what bodybuilding IS. I didnt know it existed until i was 19. Imagine how many others out there dont. If it got out there more, im sure it would become more popular. Just needs the right touches in the right places.......

ADD: the steroid thing doesnt fly as much as you think it does for bodybuilders. we dont hide what we do and its pretty damn obvious. We arent tryin to get away with anything. in other sports its THOUGHT that most are clean, so the ones who juice are cheaters. well, we damn sure arent cheaters cuz the playing field is level....we ALL do it...

Glad to see Jay Cutler lost. I went to the 2006 Mr. Olympia and met a lot of the body-builders got pics with lots of them.
I was talking to Lionel Brown, when Jay opened his mouth.
He told me to just walk away we don't want to talk to a gay man.
I looked at Lionel and he was looking away.
Lionel was uncomfortable with me, but I guess he didn't want to say anything. although I was talking to him and his wife and he didn't seem to mind.
I guess he felt safer with his wife. who knows.
But Jay Cutler has nothing to worry about. I told him I didn't want to talk to him , he's white and ugly...

Which doesn't bother me at all he's white and ugly

Don't be fooled by the fake friendly attitude most people adopt when they come to you to talk about your BB achievements... sure they sould like they wanna be your friend ("Wow! What you're doing with your body is great, I wished I looked like you"); but once they turn their back on you, trust me it's not pretty ("What an arrogant asshole. Just because he's big he thinks he's the shit. Actually it's disgusting... I would never want to look like him. Anyways let's just deprive him from his roids and we'll see what's left with his fake muscles. Poor dude would be better to get a life and stop worrying about how much he can bench. Hell I'm ready to bet he can't even get it up after all these years of balls shrinking drug abuse").

Sad thing is I'm hardly exaggerating...

Dexter, Jay, Ronnie, Arnold, Frank Zane, you, me... we're all the same for people... juicers who have a mental illness (bigorexia... or "megarexia" as these journalists wrote about Big Kiwi in the teaser for his TV show 60 minutes appearance :( ).

B-Boy is completely spot on.

No he is not! This is a terrible attitude to have! Why even be a BB if you think this is true?
I have people everyday ask me how I get my arms so big, or how do I get abs, and so on? A lot of these people I know personally because I am a personal trainer in my town. I have a very good reputation and people always ask me about compettions and Bodybuilders.
Most are very curious because they don't know much about it!

I like people and they like me! I am proud of what I do and that shows in my attitude.

First of all, Massive is exactly right... The sport is not going back to the days of physiques like Zane or anything close to it... However, Bboy is also right in the fact that it has nothing to do with how much mass you bring to the stage, it has to do with not allowing your midsection to suffer as a result of it... I think that is the point being made... The sport of bodybuilding will NEVER be accepted by the mainstream... Majority of people think that it is disgusting on any level... So why worry about trying to accomplish that... Just try to make the sport appealing to those who like it, and support it... That should be the goal... The only thing that I ask of someone representing this sport, especially Mr. O, is that they can say a complete sentence without enforcing the steriotype of bodybuilders being dumbass meatheads... I think that Jay did that... He was a good ambassador for the sport... Does that mean we should allow him to remain Mr. O, even though he clearly was defeated this year? Absolutely not... So we will see how Dex handles being Mr. O... I think that he will do fine...

sadly bro, Phidias is right on, open your eyes ... most of the time people coming at me asking how much I bench or how did I get so big are the one who criticise (sp) too

i think its all in the attitude of the individual. if you come off as an arrogant asshole youll be seen as one weather you big, little,or whatever. people always ask me how much i bench or how do i get abs, and everyone expects a goofy answer because they know my personality. but i do get a few that have a genuine interrest and take honest advice. i had one server that i hired say when i met you i thought you were just some dumb meathead, its nice to see i was wrong. the point is "normal" people will never understand what we do. and yes we are abnormal. i had a discussion with my fiancee's psychology professor about why i do what i do and how people react to that. bodybuilding will never be as main stream as football. people can relate to football. how many people have you met that can relate to eating 8 meals a day, measuring out every macronutrient for each meal, not drinking when you go out with friends, punishing yourself in a gym all week long? its not normal, its self induced torture all due to muscledysmorphia. we are as unhappy as the anorexic girl whose 70 lbs and thinks shes fat. we are just wierd. and wierd intrigues some people, and scares others. people are affraid of what they dont understand. we need good ambassadors to this sport to help people understand that on average, save for a handfull of idiots, we are unsually intelligent, articulate, dedicated, and hold a level of committment to something that most people cant comprehend, and that were not a bunch of juiced up assholes who go out and have rages left and right. we need people to understand that for alot of us the biggest muscle we have is in our heads. enguaging in this sport at this level has us becoming biologists, chemists, exercise physiologists, nutritionists, and practally PHD's of bodybuilding. and its mostly self taught. thats goddamn impressive if you ask me.

sorry for the off topic rant. just my opinion.

People criticize out of jealousy. It does draw positive attention though. I am POSITIVE im not the only one on here who has advantages because they are big. I have met so many people because of it. The owners of clubs, restuarants, stores.....which iv gotten discounts or comps on all, people willing to help me with things, offer tons of free advice, etc.....things i NEVER got before i got bigger and that normal people just dont get often. THAT is positive!

Like i said, if we are friendly enough to people and genuinely converse with them, they will leave us with a POSITIVE outlook on bodybuilders in general, because thats what we are viewed as....bodybuilders not people. Its sad that you guys have such a grim outlook on our small close knit community, but i like to be an optimist and believe that even if we can change a small percentage of the populations views on us then it is an accomplishment. I believe little by little interest COULD spread if properly handled. NO, it wont ever be mainstream, but could be alot more popular than it is.

One of the most important things to do as a bodybuilder is to carry a smile. Like it or not we are intimidating and look unfriend. So a smile will change that. Think of Phil Heath. Always smiling and positve and not cocky. He would be perfect for the sport. I cant wait for him to win the O. You just watch. I have a feeling some things will change when he is on top.......im not sayin DRASTIC, but better than they are now
