This is a legit search for male bodybuilders wanted by a supplement company for contracts and photo shoots required in the next month. I'm going to be the photographer and am doing the scouting for these bodybuilders. You can google my name "irvin gelb" or "irvin j. gelb" to find out more about me or look in magazines such as Musclemag International.
Requirements are:
- Male Bodybuilders
- preferably 200 lbs. and over
- thickly muscled and in contest shape within the next month or so.
- preferably located in California or nearby for shoots in Los Angeles.

Please email photos, stats, contact information to:
[email protected]

I will contact you if the supplement company is interested in talking with you and will put you in direct contact with them.
Thanks,
Irvin J. Gelb

I'm sure everyone knows who you are, and if they don't they should :)

Good luck with finding them, I'm sure that a few good ones from here will send you their photos.

DO YOU GUYS WANT TO MAKE MONEY?

To my surprise I have received very few responses to this opportunity. The guys who responded are good bodybuilders but not what my client is looking for. We need thick guys who are either 5'7"-5'9" over 210 lbs. or 5'9" or taller and over 220 lbs. You need to be someone who has a fairly balanced physique with future potential. This is a chance to get exposure and some decent money which is very difficult in our industry these days.
Please only email me photos and info as requested in my original post to this thread. We prefer guys who live in California but might consider those of you who are outside the state. Also, you need to be in shape in the next month or two.
Good luck

Damn Irv, I wont be in shape till July, and won't be living in Vegas for another year...lol. How's it going buddy, goodluck on the shoot with Brett this week!!

Few responses because

Basically, there is no money in going to a photo shoot and "getting a big contract." The money is there when you contact the company yourself or the scout or owner sees you. A photo shoot is just a photo shoot. A lot of guys will be very discouraged spending all day taking photos, getting no money, then seeing their picture in a magazine a year later with nothing to show for it. You get the money Irv, not the bodybuilders. I don't blame you for coming on here and trying to get business, but please be honest with everyone. This is not the way to go about it. I have an idea. Tell us what company it is and let us send our own pictures in to them and talk to them directly. If you care about bodybuilders making money, tell them who to contact.

RESPONSE TO PHIL HERNON

This is in response to Phil's message: "Basically, there is no money in going to a photo shoot and "getting a big contract." A lot of guys will be very discouraged spending all day taking photos, getting no money, then seeing their picture in a magazine a year later with nothing to show for it. Phil,
I knew you many years ago and we spent a lot of good times together. I have good memories of those days and wish to think that you knew me but you don't. This is going to be a long email but it's important that as many of you read this because it may help you.

First of all, taking photos for the magazines is my business and way to earn a living. At the same time I have tried to help people who I have worked with who deserved to be helped. I have introduced over 40 girls and guys to supplement companies over the past 15 years and they have gotten contracts and opportunities that helped their careers. I won't be specific but my reputation is impeccable and all that you have to do is ask anyone who I have photographed. Why do I do this? It's a small way of saying thank you to people who shoot with me, it's a way for me to help people who need it and finally it's a way for me to hopefully shoot them for the supplement company. No one does anything for nothing. I have good intentions, help people and earn a living at the same time.

Why am I looking for potential bodybuilders and you're not hearing from the company directly? First of all they have worked with me as a photographer for a couple of years, like my work and the way that I treat them and their models. I also have a good eye for talent so I'm filtering out the candidates for them and referring only the best ones. You guys will be in direct contact with the company once they say that they are interested. You're not losing out in any way. In fact you're gaining a lot by my being aggressive and giving people who participate in professionalmuscle.com a chance for this opportunity. I get no commission from referring people. I'm already the photographer of choice. I'm just helping facilitate the search.

Why don't I reveal the name of the supplement company? There are several important reasons. They don't want to be inundated with inquiries and are using me as a filtering tool. There are people under contract with this company and we need this search to be kept for reasons that you can imagine. It won't be a secret if the candidates are good and the company is interested in talking with them directly. I don't get involved in the negotiations at all.

Why do bodybuilders get no pay to shoot with most magazines? I don't know. I wish they did. I have from the day that I started in this business. I agree that it's not fair but I try to compensate for that by getting people the maximum exposure and will help them in any other way possible. I don't take advantage of people. It's also up to the bodybuilders to be aggressive and utilize this exposure to their benefit and not sit back and complain. Those who are proactive get ahead in life and I will help those peope to the best of my ability. Many of today's top pros started out shooting with me and I did my best for them. Ask Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Craig Titus, Monica Brant, Timea Majorova, etc, etc.

If anyone wants more information on how to get started and get something out of this business I will be glad to help you.

Phil, next time please be in direct contact with me when you have some concerns. If you have any bodybuilders who you are training for shows I will be glad to help them.

My email is [email protected]

Peace,
irv

Gotta love Phil's honesty

Phil and I both know what really lurks behind the curtain in the bodybuilding world so called "Wizard of Oz".Its a real let down once you learn it...Enough said. However,Irv you are a great photographer ....I give you that and wish you well but this so called sports use and abuse of its althletes for little or no finacial gain for the most part is pathetic. On that I am sure you agree.
Best wishes,
Brad

There alot of so called great opportunities for the young & naieve in this sport..lol(hold on to your posers boys). I loved competitive bodybuilding years back when I thought it was real and thought it had some honor and integrity in it.....The pains of seeing the real world when you get older and wiser :( .
You can like Irv said make some money if you know how to market yourself and you are willing to learn your niche on the scene.Just don't expect exposure to do much for you unless you stay in shape and direct that exposure to some sort of spin off where you can sell, endorse,or promote yourself directly ....good things such as websites, personal training business,acting/modeling, etc.
Wish you all well,
Brad

Your exactly correct even I know theres no real money in BB ive been saying this for years , but on Irvs behalf I must say hes just doing his job and doing it to his best ability, Irv is a Photographer its his way of life , also when I worked with Irv he told me ahead of time exactly what the plan was there was no let down cause I had already known what i was in for ,,,, Most guys hear the word Photoshoot and they think there the next superstar lol photoshoot is a danm photoshoot its a bunch of pictures ,, now Irv told me Id be featured in musclemag and what the entire outcome would be so I gladly prepared myself for some solid exposure in a top mag and upcomming mags , you see I dont look at it as making thousands of dollars i look at it as a fun experience and getting some pics in a few mags for the hell of it , where it takes me well I really dont know but id rather be in mags then not i guess ,,,,,,,

I must admit its a sad thing when we work so hard and nearly starve ourselves for such little rewards but then again who says you gotta participate in this fucked up sport , if you dont like it you can always walk and I honestly think 90% of Body builders should not be Body building well the 90% who think there the next Ronnie ,,,they really dont have a fucking clue or a chance in hell to make it sad but true .

So I am kinda confused here but if the picture eventually gets published and the company used someones photo from a photo shoot the person doesnt get paid from the advertising budget of the company. Or they just dont get paid for the photo shoot if nothing comes out of it. Which does makes sense except some extra 8X10s for themself and there family.

underlying meaning.....

Dont quit your day job!!!!
gooey - the next super overweight and overall USA Dairy Queen champion

I will give you an example

A photographer takes your pictures, has you sign a release, he sells them to the magazines for whatever the rate is, and you make nothing.

Irv

There is no reason to be in direct contact with you if I have some concerns. My only concern is that these guys know the truth. A talk between you and I in private will not expedite that.

Bahahaha. :)
sounds like a great deal.

preferably located in California or nearby....

I guess this would be so they dont have to buy you a plane ticket out of the budget or spend extra money traveling to you ;)
I think a small % would only be FARE imo.. or is there Just not enough money in it?

You guys that are into these things need to form a Bodybuilders union :)
The problem why there is no money involved is there are Guys like Vander
(no offense to you V) young and Gung-ho willing to do it for free BUT they may have a chance to get there picture in a magazine. Its a shame ALL the money goes into someone elses pocket and not 1 cent to the guys.

Good point Rajjin

Also, why not use Vander???? You took pictures of him, send them into the company. You say that "ÿou"are looking for a certain look. Who is ÿou"? Is this just for you? What is wrong with Vanders look? He meets the criteria? LET ME JUST SAY THIS. DONT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANYONE. PAY THEM UP FRONT FOR THEIR TIME AND TROUBLE. YOU ARENT THE ONLY ONE THAT NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY. COMING ON HERE AND TELLING US THAT WE ARE NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A HUGE MONETARY REWARD IS PLAIN BULLSHIT. YOU SOUND LIKE A USED CAR SALESMAN.

and with that folks...

There you have it folks cut and dry coming from the horses mouth. People who have been down this road b4. Phil, Brad, Vander, Gooey, RajJ you all could'nt have said it better.

Irv with all the money you make selling these photographs to magz supplement companies etc maybe you could be the first to lead a new revolution. If you truly want to help these people and you would do anything to help them as much as you can this is just a suggestion( a thought), something for you to think about for the next few years.. and ask yourseld am I truly helping these guys and gals?

As a photographer you take your pictures, have them sign releases and sell them to the magazines or supplement companies etc. for whatever the rates. Now as a part of your rates, you should include a percentage in which will go to each person whos' photographs you sell. This way you both benefit and these young poor people struggling and putting themselves through all the trouble over some exposure are getting some real benefit.

Im not sayin it has to be 50/50 but something for something not something for nothing. You make a good living Im sure, you are widely known and by no means are living in poverty. You do make money of their photgraphs enough to pay for supplies, your time and plenty of profit im sure. Take a small percent of what you both earn cause you wouldnt be able to do it without these guys and pay them.

If you truly want to help these individuals succeed and you truly want to give them something then the opportunity is there for you to be remembered in a much more respectful way. No that you will ever be forgotten but you will be remembered and you will be remembered as the man who made a difference. A true difference in the world of bodybuilding. Just my $.02

Then Im sure your 1st priority is to earn your living and since this is the case you should have thought twice about the boards you choose to make this happen. A wise man would have known better not to post on a board with people that have gone through what your trying to promote. If your trying to "quote" earn a living through your business" then you should be smart and pick less experienced boards that dont know no better or if your really real like you said to help others see success(lol), then you'll have to come to boards like these and tell it like it really is and let a man choose for himself knowing the outcome. ITS ALL BUSINESS PERIOD.

Supp. contracts

I agree that the BB should be paid something. But, I have also heard many of the people on this board say they want exposure and get there name out there. Even if we don't get paid during our 1st or 2nd shoot, we still get exposure which we can then market ourselves to the supp. companies. It is not cheap to put a portfolio together to market so whay not do a couple shoots and make sure you get copies of all photos and then start sending them out yourself. Just remember in this business it sounds like everyone uses everyone. So use the photographer for a couple of shoots then if anyone likes your look then we can make money directly from the company. Just my opinion. g/l to all
