Basically he's saying eat every 4-5 and have BCAAs/leucines between each meal. Because protein synthesis will become refractory.

I might have some of this wrong or off so don't quote me on it, and listen to it to get the full idea.
This goes aginist everything I've ever heard, eat small meals threw out the day etc.
What is your take on this? You'll have to listen to the interview to get the full scoop.
Discuss.

I listened to it this morning while eating my second meal, layne a good friend of mine and ONE SMART COOKIE :D . very proud of how far that young man has come since i first met him years ago. the jury is still out on the whole meal frequency thing, he has used himself as a small test subject on eating less frequent meals but even that was 5 meals and he gets up in the middle of the night and has some BCAA's and a protein bar. but he did say his meals were space out to about 4 hours with some BCAA's between meals with about 20 grams of carbohydrates to illicit a small insulin response. the whole thing with leucine and protein synthesis was pretty good, layne sometimes talks over your head but he did a good job explaining things on the air. next month I will be trying a few things out with his theorys' ;)

Glad you liked it, I was only able to check out half of it, gona finish the rest of it later. Wish I had heard all of it now lol.
And, you gota post your results later on after you see them.

Good thread 7DS!

Agreed. I have been following Layne on MD for quite some time. i actually find him quite refreshing theory wise. He works with quite a few people I know from the boards and they love working with him.

just wanted to give some big props to chrisco915, quadsmack, 7deadlysins, and muscledoc1, for expanding your minds and posting in this thread. why am i saying this your asking yourself, cause i just get tickled sometimes at the mindset of some people, they will ask what to stack with tren, and how long to run dbol with test and silly ass shit, but something like this gets no discussion just makes me laugh laugh laugh. and then someone will make 9 hundred thread on how should they take LBA's, well guess what after listening to layne I would come to the great conclusion on just hearing what he had to say that I would take LBA's between my meals as the amino profile of LBA's is damn good ( your a smart man hernon), I can't remember the amount of Leucine (I will look it up) but dayum this is a great discussion.. lets see anabolic steriods increase protein synthesis thru various pathways, and duh lets see i keep hearing people dropping a bunch of weight after their cycles (yes some of it is hormone dependent as your hormones are out of whack for a while due to testosterone production being low) but some of it is also due to protein synthesis not being as high and P.T.O.R. not being as optimal. so a discussion on how to get the most protein synthesis I would have thought would have been a damn good discussion here, but I guess not, O well on to the next 20 trenbolone threads

I know exactly what you mean, I was about to come and bump this thread up It's to good to let it go.

I'm suprised dad and edge isen't in on this. (hint hint lol)

Another thing that gets me is people will beat a dead horse like you said about stacking this and that, but this can actually help them keep their muscle and they wont even pay attention.
I had another thread, "tip thread" with hardly no posts..all from me. But the thread by JETHRO TULL what did you eat today is at pg 2. (No offense to him) It'd seem like people would be more interested in learning something, but I guess not.

I can't listen to this as I am at work right now, but is there any coverage on blood sugar levels with such a wide gap?

Personally I start to feel pretty sick at 3 hours without food. I can go longer but it takes days to adapt.

I'll try to listen to this over the weekend when I am home.

it will take you a while to adjust, but also the BCAA's you take between meals need to have a small amount of carbs with it for a small insulin response as insulin is a key factor in the protein synthesis process also. I believe layne was taking about 20grams of carbohydrates with his.

I assume that the 3 meals are going to be very high in protein (50-100 gr depending on the individual) but what would be the aproach with carbs and fats?

that would depend on your goal! gain, loose, or maintain... the meals are just gonna have to be a lil larger than what your normally use to. and it doesn't neccesarily have to be three meals, depending on how long your are up and awake during the day it could be 5 meals?

Im going to be doing some experimenting with some things to do with all this on one of my workout partners, hes had some injurys where he has had to take a lot of time off from the gym and now he is slowly easying back into training the last couple of weeks with me (FST-7 training). I am wanting him to space his meals out further and supplement with some BCAA's between meals and a couple of other things that i will mention later once the process begins. I want to see how fast we can put muscle back on him and actually go beyond what he previously had.

Yes, Layne is one smart dude. I am always interested in reading and listening to his thoughts and knowledge. As you stated B-Boy, Phil was correct about consuming AA's in between meals in some form or fashion. Sometimes I feel like I am not eating enough, but again it is what your body needs day and day out, that changes everyday, but for the most part I have found that my body screams for at least 4 solids meals with protein/LBA shake in between meals.

ha ha exactly lenny me too bro! and if your working out hard, resting properly, your body WILL tell you that. you have provided the stimulus and your body will react to it.

since this is an interesting topic to some, i feel obligated to let people know that Christian Thibeadeau over at T-mag.com is doing something similar to this with great results...just search in his forum section but i believe he is using pepto pro for a quick rise in protein synthesis

I personally love Laynes theories and am very impressed by his wealth of knowledge. I cant imagine going that long without solid food tho. I have worked with Phil and and ate when my body told me and at two hours im damn hungry...at three ill pass out or kill somebody if I dont eat. Fast metabolism I suppose.

Phil has always said everyday may be different. I can average 3-4 hr between meals and somedays like b-boy said your body talks to you. So what do you do???? feed it!

Phil is one smart cookie and I feel I have known about this knowledge for sometime now after reading this. This way has worked well for me and really teaches you how to listen to your body.

Thanks Phil.........;):D

does he explain why you need an insulin response with your BCAA's between meals? If you ate carbs in your prior meal.. would that be enough to elicit an insulin response when you consumed your BCAA's? If you were dieting, could u reduce that 20g to like 4 or 5 grams by consuming veggies?

Despite that popular trend, there are members (like me), who absolutely LOVE learning new things about how the body works. I don't post a whole lot, but I love to read. I wish there was an entire subforum dedicated to threads like this one so all the 'useful' information could be found in one place. I could spend days reading threads like this one. After all, the more you know, the more you grow ;)
