Diet : We will start with diet as this is the most important componet in actually creating an environment to gain muscle.
Like our bodies ,I believe you have do structure your diet progessively. I believe you can build your metabolism .You can teach your body to become more efficiant with food and at assimulating protien. So what did I do to do that after being so inactive and having my body ravaged by infection for 5 months?
Basically I did a diet similar to what jayuk got ran off this board for advocating. I don't believe carbs are nessarry at all until you are below a true 10% body fat . [and after your first 3-5 yrs of training you should always try to stay below 10% year round anyway.......look like a bb all the time .....plus it's healthier ]
In the begining of this comeback from near death,, before I even started training . I mastered my diet . started with a higher fat ,mod .protien, and near zero carb diet . I also added cardio and started playing with the weights. After a couple weeks I had dropped fat and looked different already . My body was running hotter and I needed less sleep. At that point it was time to make the switch , I lowered the fat and increased the protien .The carbs remained near zero. And heavy weights training was now introdced.
I don't you can just start out at 7 -8 meals a day .So What I do Is add meals as I feel like my body needs them . It could be every week I add a meal or it might end up being a month or longer [it all depends how I look and feel].Like Phil sayes ," eat when hungery . And when I feel I am assimulating the protien and my body is hungry I add a meal . Eventually ,I will train my body to need 10 -12 meals a day and still be very lean . About once every 7-15 days I have an eat day . Since I have trained my body to convert fat to glucose I seem to just do better by really increasing the kals from fats at this point. [I just feel better and my stomach does much better.......when I use carbs ,I do get a better response ,but more water ret. and it jacks my stomach, plus I know water is not muscle]Cardio is being slowly eliminated and may go totally in the not too distant future. We are trying to build our bodies to hold as much muscle as posible and cardio becomes counter productive once our metabolsim is fuctioning highly and our anabolic environment has been set up.
At the point I am below a true 10% [which is lean guys, no real fat pockets and nice seperation between all muscle groups ] then I will start to play with timed carbs around workouts using jayuk 's ideas .If that goes well and I estimte that it will . I should be bigger and leaner than at any point that I have been drug free[for 12 yrs] than I have been in a very long time . Maybe ever.
Remember progression is key is the weight room and in diet .After I hit around 8% I will start to add in some more carbs in the form of fruit .The plan is to stay at 6-8% forever so diet will be adjusted to maintain my goals .Once I am totally at my lean most muscular natural max then diet will be played with to keep body off balance a bit. different carbs [oats ,beans ,rice in small portions could be timed in small ammounts ] and a cheat meal each week could be added .Expections are to reach this point by jan/feb.
I am some guru ? Do I claim to know what I am doing ? No. But I have been around along time . And what I have put together seems to make alot of sense to me and is working very well .Almost drug like .So I am going to ride it out as long as my body continues to change towards my goal of being a lean muscular human being. And as I the pics start to sufface you will see I am well on my way.......lol
