O/T a few thoughts on the new ultimate fighter

overall i thought the field of guys on the show was very weak. i feel like they tried to find the biggest guys available and not necessarily the best. As we saw in the fight last night skill can often overcome size (that short chubby guy beat the piss out of a guy who was almost six inches taller and looked stronger)...on that note i cant wait to see the guys from the nfl get their asses kicked, i dont think they have any idea what theyre getting themselves into. if you dont want to hear a spoiler please STOP reading NOW..............................i have heard from an inside source that kimbo made it to the finals. wether or not this is true i cant say but the way he explained it to me was that it was better for the show because if kimbo was knocked out in the early weeks the show would lose a lot of viewers.

I heard a very very different spoiler...I heard that kimbo quits the show half way through...this guy also claims to be an "inside source", so we will see what happens I guess...I hope he doesn't, cuz like him or not, he is entertaining...

I for one am okay with NFL guys trying their hand at MMA. I see no difference in them competing in it versus a teacher, accountant, or any other profession. Football just happended to be their career.

The first Kimbo rumor I heard was that he gets ko'd in his first fight but i imagine that if he is on the entire show ratings will be higher.

The fight last night was mighty weak! Wrestling guy versus an engineer... yeah, who won? The engineer throws up before a fight... screams fighter to me.

They don't want the best fighters, they want some people that you just want to see killed in the ring. It's TV!!

I'm going to give it a few more episodes. I mean look at past seasons, some of the first fights weren't that amazing. This feels the same to me. But really, I'm watching because I am hoping Kimbo makes Dana White eat his fucking words that kimbo will never be in the ufc because he's a street fighter. I'm watching for Kimbo... yeah, i'll admit it

Overall i wasnt that impressed with the caliber of the guys they got. The guy who won last night is a local st. louis/illinois area guy. He has 1 fight on his record in 2008 from what i have read. Alot of the guys have virtually no experience.
On the Kimbo side, Bas Rutten who was training him when he was in Elite XC recently said Kimbo became "an egomaniac & total waste of time" or something to that effect. Wouldnt work with him anymore. Will be interesting to see what happens.

i have no problem with them training either..i have a problem with guys who assume that because they were good at football they will be good at this. the truth is most football players think they are bad asses simply because theyre big guys and i think the ones on the show will learn to appreciate the amount of training that goes into being a fighter. As far as kimbo goes i hope he does win the entire show because my dream is to watch brock lesnar make him cry like a little girl

Lesnar is about to be dethroned by Carwin. Mark my words. Kimbo will make it through most of the show, but not to the UFC. Dana White will never eat his own words.

It's all about the ratings, and creating a bigger fan base.

UFC TRAINING

The football players will have do do some serious training to get in the octagon and make it through a five minute round. Hell I use to kick box and 3- 3 minute rounds took years to train for. Just try hitting and kicking a bag for 5 minutes straight without anyone hitting you and you will have a new appreciation for this sport. I watched Lesnar's training day and I admire any ufc fighter that gets into this. It's about the training, knowledgeand heart, not your size. We see it happen all the time. Personally Lesnar is an animal. I think he needs a better ground game. This would make him one of the best in this weight class. We seen it happen against Frank Mir, a submission.
Now Kimbo has the street performance, but I think they will try to keep him on for the ratings for a while but dana is going to make a point about how intense this sport is with him showing people that a UFC fighter is in a class all of it's own and thats where his money is.

Well i can respect your opinion. I think division II wrestling has taught Carwin enough skill to defend a take down from Lesnar. Also Lesnar will have to fight some one his own size, with knockout power(Carwins gentle straight right hand that KO'ed Gonzaga). It will be an interesting fight.

I think any athlete whether it be an NFL player, or baseball player, or fill the blank, would get a new found respect for MMA once they go through this camp. Not everyone can be a contender. You can train your ass off, and still not be a fighter. A person is born a fighter. Its not a learned trait.

I agree with you. Anyone, especially athletes who excel at other sports outside of MMA, should enter the sport of MMA with a sense of humility and willingness to learn. Being big, strong, and physically aggressive does not make someone a proficient fighter for sure (it doesn't hurt). Heck, being a good street fighter doesn't make someone a good MMA fighter for that matter. It's just so different than anything else a person could go through.

I think the problem is that there just arent that many super skilled Heavys out there right now. Thats why the Kimbos and Lesnar's got so poplular so fast even though they have had only a few fights. There just isnt enough god talent for them to go against...yet. Dana White is doing the right thing by having a show just for the heavy weights...should make that class much better in the future. I think there may be a few guys on this seasons TUF that may surprise us all. Would Roy Nelson count as a dark horse?

LOTS of people throw up before they get into the ring (orcage). i know a golden gloves champion who would either ball his eyes out, puke, or get diahrea before his fights.

Dana is a marketing genius. If Kimbo loses Dana says" I told you so" If Kimbo does well Dana go to the bank. Rampage and Rashad's trash talking is ratings gold. Did anaybody see when Rampage told Rashad he looked like a fish out of water when Machida knocked him out?

that fight was not entertaining at all but i would not make fun of the abe wagner, who lost because he throws up before a fight. there have been some very good athletes in their sports who do that before every game, it doesn't necessarily mean anything about your ability to produce under pressure or something like that. many guys throw up ,it means nothing

also for him to come out with that cut for round 2 and finish the fight , he is a tough guy to do that. he was put in a very tough position by rampage, rampage fucked up with the match up he picked ,that is his fault . wagner told him he has limited in wrestling and ground defense and then rampage goes and put him up against a national champion wrestler. not a smart move

well there are always two sides as kimbo says bas was a terrible trainer who did it just to steal his money but was not interested in teaching him anything. he says bas should have given him his money back for the job he did

are you kidding dana would love to eat his own words, kimbo is going to make him a lot of money. dana has is always thinking ahead , what he said about kimbo had what your seeing now as his logical conclusion all along.
