O/T Burning skin feeling spreading?

My father is 60yrs old and just told me he woke up this morning and felt a really odd burning sensation on his chest which later radiated down his arm and a portion of his back. He said it felt as if the skin were burned and you were putting a shirt over the burn. Ibpropen did nothing. He's a dentist and worked all day and at the end of work he gave himself a shot of liquid benadryl he has in his emergency dental kit. I told him to go to ER but he said he's gonna see if he can sleep it off tonight and if its still there tomorrow he will go to Er after work. Anyone have any idea what this could be. 1st time is ever happened to him. he's very health and he said there were no visible symptoms, no redness, no bite, no texture change, nothing, just burning feeling.

I really think he should go to the er man!! That type of description could be a lot of things. But it sounds a little sinister to me. Talk him into a trip to the hospital for safety and peace of mind!!

He went to ER last night and they think its Shingles. They put him on valtrax and said good thing he came in b/c if you dont go on the antiviral within 72hrs its way worse. He is a dentist and is most afraid he could lose vision in one eye b/c I guess that can be a side effect. Hopefully he pulls through this. Hes on hrt and thinks the 1.2iu's of GH spead up the process lol but I would be thinking shit like that too if i was in such a shitty situation. Apparently if you had chicken pox as a kid(like most of us) you have an %80 chance of getting shingles after the age of 60.
