O/T Prilosec OTC

So my dr. told me to go on it till I get my endoscopy done but on the back of the box it says take for 14days then discontinue use for 4months, then repeat 14days. The dr. never told me this. Do you really need to stop after only 2weeks? its done wonders for me. Does it continue working?

well I can tell you that it does work well as you know and it does continue to work for a while after you stop ( cant remember how long after) Did your doc tell you to use it ( as it says on the box) or did he tell you to stay on it til he sees you again?

The OTC is the same as the prescription that is available. I generally take 2 when I start taking this and you can take this much longer than 14 days! My doctor told me to stay on it and there was no need to stop. I would however look at stresses on the liver if taking any orals.

My doc prescribed it to me and I was on it continuously for months. Had acid reflux so bad it would burn my ears when that stuff came up. Now, I almost never have to take it. I cleaned up my diet ( which I needed to do anyway ) and did away with the work related stress.

my doc told me to take prilosec OTC stuff everyday. i mentioned that it said take every 2 weeks, etc. he said its the same stuff as prescribed so i could take it everyday STEELE

well hopefully after your indoscopy he will put you on nexium. if you have some scare tissue it will help heal it as well. i had reflux so bad he put me on 2 nexium a day. but after a couple of wks. i only had to take 1 every three to 5 days. but diet and when you eat has alot to do with it.
the otc prilosic is the same coumpound but half the mg as script. same with pepcid.

Im mainly getting this done to see what damage I have if any and hopefully nothing serious like Barretts(very rare) I have a feeling i'll be on nexium b/c I had to have done some damage b/c i've had heartburn mulitiple times daily for a good year and 2years prior to that had it a few times per week at least.

Getting a script may end up being cheaper than the OTC if you have insurance. Use it daily..not just the 14 days.
