I got a problem..i didnt know if any of you would be able to suggest something i could do to protect my hands..

ya see..a couple of weeks ago i joined a new gym...everything is brand new and the dumbells and barbells are ripping up my hands..

Yesterday i trained biceps and went home 3 torn open blisters..this has never happend before..I'm training much heavier than im used to but i dont have the problem at my other gym

I'm really all set with wearing gloves..should i tape around my knuckles?? Can anyone suggest what i could do? Thanks all so much
 
yea maybe chalk A.J. if not im not sure except for gloves??:(
 
Since its a L.A. fitness..i'll prob have to keep the chalk on the DL..being that they can be kinda fluffy...where could i find liquid chalk?
 
A buddy of mine used to use these square pieces of rubber. He just put them in the palm of his hand before grabbing the bar or DB, he swore by them.

The brightside is at least you'll have some nice callouses. lol...You'll eventually adjust.

On the other hand, rather than gloves, couldn't you wear wrist straps?

Just take a piece of paper towel fold it and wrap it around your knuckles and then tuck in. Or wrap it around the dumbbell before using. Or give it a few weeks for your skin to harden. I'd do the paper towel cause the latter is nasty.
 
www.prowriststraps.com is one of the board sponsors and they sell barbell/dumbbell pads that wrap around the bar. This may be an option if you really don't want to wear gloves.

What is wrong with wearing gloves?....Does this make one a sissy or something...Call me sally then as I wear them.

My gym just got brand new bars and I can vouch for two recommendations so far;

Chaulk (better than gloves in my opinion)
Paper towel. I did this a couple of months ago because I got a cut on the inside of my hand and the bar was just uncomfortable.
 
there used to be an old saying :

if youre gonna wear gloves.....make sure they match your shoes/bag :D

thats funny as chit. I was actually thinking of getting me some gloves from one of the sponsers here. Because before I left the states there was alot of staff infections and pink eye going around at the gym. But I just made sure not to rub or touch my face at the gym and keep hand cleaner in my car for after workout. :D MM

I wear gloves.....before I started wearing them I was getting sore hands and didnt want them to hurt too much or blister...I am really used to them now and always wear them.

I do have some nice callouses..but i have to grind them down multiple times during the week being im a massage therapist..def dont want to scratch up my clients

However, i do use versa grips on back day..Ive tried them for bi's, tri's, delts but the thick piece of rubber does'nt work well with my wrists..thank you for your input tho..

Yeah He's def helpd me out alot..broke some records this week for myself..200lbs for close grip rows @ 9 reps..and 18 plates on the cybex leg press for 10 reps..def pumpd about that..

Theres nothing wrong with wearing gloves at all..and nothing sissy about wearing them..ive tried over 10 pairs..and they still effect my wrists and metacarpels..
