Hey guys gotta throw this out there could not believe my eyes. So there is a ifbb pro at the gym compete around 260 great guy friendly as can be. So today we were chatting after workout. And he grabs a soda out of his bag. I said I hope that's diet he smiles says nope good old root beer. I was like your prepping he said so this 60 grams of sugar and tates better than what your drinking he said big boy sugar is sugar period. He said nobody drinks that shit guys indorse it but don't use. Post work out drinks are scam. I know his genetics are different than most I do know he loves insulin humlin r please help me understand he is prepping so I didn't wanna ask slot of questions.
 
well, hes correct, technically sugar is sugar.
i dont know about root beer but soda wouldnt be my first choice since its relatively high content of fructose.. although a bit of fructose is benefical.
If you eat cornflakes, drink a root beer, eat gummy worms.. your choice imo.
intra workout i would opt for something better digestable but post.. get in what you like as long as its low fat.

I like whey isolate with Coco Krispies mixed in.
I've tried Karbolin , Vitargo and HBCD and saw near zero difference in my blood glucose readings so I just stick with cereal. Dollar store brand is like 50 cents a serving
 
Fructose is fine. It’s not inherently harmful. The studies people cite to claim it is are because the people in the studies are unhealthy. They’re usually fat. Then there’s the studies on obese rodents.
It refills glycogen in the liver and then everywhere else.
All carbs are broken convererted into glycogen.
Jay Cutler used to drink soda post workout.
Post workout drinks are not a scam. They do exactly what they’re supposed to do.
it reminds of people who claim protein drinks are a scam or somehow don’t work.
Are post workout supplements necessary? Absolutely not.
They are convenient though.
I do not have a post workout drink.
I drink EAAs, salt and Gatorade intra because I workout first thing in the am.
Post workout I eat cereal, salt and protein isolate.

People think they need more carbs pre and post than they actually do.
I see the equivalent of what a marathon or endurance athlete would need. We’re not really using all that much glycogen to lift weights.
But then again people eat way too much fat and protein because in bodybuilding there’s the more is better mentality
 
I’ve been running HBCD inta since 2012, and have not encountered any compelling reason to do differently.
My recovery is great, it moves through my digestive system like water, and post workout is easy… Just wait about an hour and have my next meal.

When you become a truly advanced bodybuilder you'll be shocked what you can get away with - I know I was.
 
As long as your digestion can handle it, it doesn't really matter where the carbs/sugar come from.

I personally don't do any of these expensive carb powders. Instead I opt for gatorade and juice intra and then I add some gummy candy to my post workout meal to get the carbs up.

Lol I liiittterally was gonna post the same shit. Dusty would drink regular soda then go home and make steak and Mac and cheese.

Yes there is some stuff that is icing on the cake but try it for yourself and experiment. I drink Gatorade powder and two big scoops of TN’s unflavored EAAs. Chalky and unmixable lol but it works for me.

I think the volume of water in a full size 12oz root beer might be too much, you don't want distention, which would lead to puffy face.

I have recently started using this guy in my post shake:

VERY VERY similar in texture as a quality waxy maize. I don't use alot, 30g thus far, but it processes like a protein shake without it. 75g protein and 25-30 of this and it's as if I drank a glass of water. Cheap as well.

When of the biggest guys I knew in this sport that taught me pointers early on used to finish his workout then pull out a 2L of Coca-Cola and just chug it. This came after he slammed a quick whey shake down.

He used to give me so much shit because I would to drink my cheap ass whey and eat my oatmeal. Lol

He told me to be big you gotta eat big and that means finding the easiest way to get it in. If only I had listened sooner. 😂

Are there better ways that soda post workout? Absolutely. Does it work and get the job done- absolutely.
