shoulder update #3

for those of you who remember the whole story about my shoulder i got some good news finally. i had a MRI and the report was negative no tears or joint effusion (arthritis). i saw my doc jan 5th and he injected me with kanalog directly into the joint(hurt like hell). Kanalog is a anti-inflam and he said 3-5days and my shoulder should feel fine. we will see???? it has been a total of 5months now with no, none, zero shoulder work or chest of any kind. he said i should continue the cuff strengthening exercises for a month and then i can finally try to push weight. he also said if this injection does not work then i will have to have it scoped. so just maybe i might be back to normal in a month but worst case scenario up to another 6months hmmm. however i have been drilling back and legs and my jeans are barely fitting my thighs now so thats one positive. thanks for listening guys. tank...

If I remeber correctly you had some anterior instability. Did they perform an MRI arthrogram or just an MRI? The MRI arthrogram is where they inject a dye into the shoulder before doing the MRI. The reason I ask is that it sounds like you may have a labral tear and if you do, it will not show up on a regular MRI. In addition, if it is a labral tear, there is a good chance that the shot will give you relief, but when it wears off in a month you will be right back where you started as it only masks the pain. If in fact you did tear your labrum, then surgery is really the only option.

Did he say how long the Kanalog will work? Is it similar to a cortizone shot?

the doc did not say how long the kanalog would work but he did say that in a month it should be normal again. About the labrum tear, my doc thought that might be my problem and ordered a mri arthrogram but the only place that does that around here will not accept my insurance so he sent me to a different MRI center that does not do arthrograms. i hated to do that but i cant afford $1700 just out of pocket, i hope you are not right though because that would suck if i do have a tear. tank...
