stay the hell away from margarine

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, those who put the money into the research wanted a payback
so they put their heads together to figure out what to do to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter.

How do you like that?
They have come out with some clever new flavorings. Do you know the difference between margarine and butter? Read on to the end... it gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients and other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and he can enhance the flavors of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.
And Now, for Margarine..

Very high in trans fatty acids.
Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold. Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response.
And this is the most disturbing fact……. Margarine Is but One Molecule Away from Being Plastic

You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things
*no flies, even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
*it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic.

Would you melt your Tupperware & spread it on your Toast?

Haha,
great post bro. I believe every word of it because i know its true. Ive never liked margarine anyway :)
Wow, after reading that I learned something too, margarine is ultimately more dangerous than the abuse of AAS. :p and does the media have a crackdown on the use of margarine? No! I dont think so. Stupid government. But thats a whole other thread :), again, great post :)

I MADE A FUNNY! HA HA:star-wars

From Snopes

Contrary to the claim, margarine was not invented as a turkey fattener. It was formulated in 1869 in France in response to Napoleon III's offering of a prize to whoever could succeed at producing a viable low-cost substitute for butter. the concoction, which he dubbed oleomargarine, was achieved by adding salty water, milk, and margaric acid to softened beef fat. By the turn of the century, the beef fat in the original recipe had been replaced by vegetable oils.

In 1886, New York and New Jersey prohibited the manufacture and sale of yellow-colored margarine, and by 1902, 32 U.S. states had enacted such prohibitions against the coloration of the spread. (Folks got around this by mixing yellow food coloring into the white margarine.) In 1950 President Truman repealed the requirement that margarine be offered for sale only in uncolored state, which led to the widespread production of the yellow margarine that has come to be the norm.

before posting this stuff, investigate first.
See the rest of the debunking at http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/butter.asp

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!

Since when can you not eat tupperware???

Uh oh... I think I'm gonna be sick......

Margarine vs Butter:

Good Post. I read an article years ago when I first started competing about margarine. I stopped buying after that and starting using butter. Granted I only use butter on cheat days.

Here is some more info I have posted on other boards about margarine.

Margarine vs Butter:

From research done all over the world it has been determined that margarine is actually quite harmful. Like with most industries, the money that is being made from the sale of margarine keeps the research silent and the public doesn’t know the truth.

What is margarine? A manmade product that is totally artificial. Although the manufacturers say it is rich in polyunsaturated fats, the fats are actually destroyed during the manufacturing process. It’s the process of turning crystal clear, liquid vegetable oil into a solid product (margarine or shortening) that destroys the polyunsaturated fats. The natural polyunsaturated fat bonds are transformed into saturated fat making it more harmful than butter.

Hydrogenation is the process used to make the oil used in margarine. They heat vegetable oil and expose it to a metal catalyst, such as nickel or copper making it more pliable. This process also makes it less perishable, so it can be shipped in warm weather. It can also sit on grocery store shelves or warehouse for months.

Of course the process is much more detailed than I’ve gone into. What it comes down to is that like all processed foods all the nutrition is taken out of it, and it's just not as healthy as natural foods. What is added to margarine are trans-fatty acids, which are man-made fat molecules. These trans-fatty acids can be even worse for the cardiovascular system than saturated fats. Studies have been done that reveal a link to increasing the risk of breast cancer.

Other studies have revealed that margarine can change the metabolism. It can interfere with the body’s use of essential fatty acids. It can prohibit the conversion of short chain fatty acids, into longer chains. Crowding out the essential fatty acids and taking the place of them in the cell membranes. It can prevent insulin from binding in receptor sites reducing insulin into the cells. This slows the speed of fatty-acid synthesis and retards protein synthesis. It also slows the conversion of glucose used for energy. This also causes hormonal imbalances resulting in changes in important body functions.

It’s been noted that margarine may boost bad cholesterol levels. Studies have shown that there is an increase in LDL (low-density lipoprotein) and reduce HDL (high-density lipoprotein).

What else does margarine do? It may increase the risk of heart failure. It may increase the risk of heart disease and the risk of cancer. Studies are also showing that it could lead to diabetes and obesity. Studies done on animals fed on diets rich in trans-fats verses animals without trans-fats showed the animals gained more weight than those whom didn’t consume high amounts for trans-fats. Reports have shown that humans who consume the same amount of calories, but those who use margarine have more bodyfat than people who do not.

This is not all that has been discovered about margarine. It may reduce milk fat production in nursing mothers resulting in decreased milk production. Margarine may effect the reproductive cycle causing the production of abnormal sperm and altered gestation. Trans-fats interfere with the body’s use of omega-3 fatty acids causing imbalance in hormones that can lead to PMS, infertility and prostaglandin production. Other studies have shown a decrease in vision and suppresses immunity.

In short, they have link margarine to just about everything. Whither margarine is link to all these things is still yet to be proven, but the process itself will make you think twice about eating.

They started with the cheapest oils possibly already rancid from the extraction process. Then mixed with tiny metal particles usually nickel oxide (a toxic substance). In a high temperature, high pressure reactor they are subjected to hydrogen gas. To give it a better texture a soap-like emulsifier and starch are added. The oil is then put through a steam cleaning like process using high temperatures, which removes its horrible odor. Margarine’s natural color is an unappetizing gray, which is removed by bleach. They add dyes and strong flavors to make it look more like butter and placed into tubs or packaged into blocks.

We can’t blame all of our weight problems on margarine, but studies do show that it contributes to weight gain. Like anything else maybe we should keep it in moderation.

Ahhh chain letters...such an interesting test of gullibility.

and there is a fool born every minute.
As for margarine, I use smart balance which is non-hydrogenated. it's the non-bitter, better butter for the batter!!:D

its horrible stuff. it was started a cheap replacement for butter for the french army that is 100 percent correct, doesn't change that the stuff is garbage

tay the hell away from margarine, if you can get real raw butter its great stuff, but reguler butter is 1000 times better than margarine as well. margarine is not real food, its absolute shit. its cheap fake food that is there to make the companies who make it big money , they make way more money on margarine than butter.

and by its 100 percent true it will margerine not rot, its not real food, they put it in the refrigerated section to fool you making you think its like butter. like teh artcile said , put it in your garage and it will not rot. its not real food.
all vegetable oil magerines are derived from are not stable when extracted and go rancid so they have preservatives added to them .there are also extracted under high heat using solvents, then deodorized and bleached. it is highly processed oxidized , rancid oil. it does nothing but harm the human body. this goes for rape, canola, corn , soy oil as well. stay the hell away from these. us extra virgin olive oil for cold oil, you can even drink it or put it in shakes and extra virgin coconut or extra virgin palm oil for cooking.
butter is also a choice. if you can get raw better eat like crazy, ist great stuff

surprised people hear did not know this, do not go anywhere near margerine. its not real food. also stay the hell away from vegetable oils

butter is great for you, its healthy as hell particularly raw butter which is the way your supposed to eat it. your lucky to live in the US, where its legal ro get raw butter, in canada i can't . in some states you have import it from califonia and pretend its for your pet. in califonia your really lucky itswidely in grocery stores. if you cannot get raw butter get new zealand butter, it is probvably the best of the regular stuff

here is good guide to fats

The following nutrient-rich traditional fats have nourished healthy population groups for thousands of years:

Butter
Beef and lamb tallow
Lard
Chicken, goose and duck fat
Coconut, palm and sesame oils
Cold pressed olive oil
Cold pressed flax oil
Marine oils

The following new-fangled fats can cause cancer, heart disease, immune system dysfunction, sterility, learning disabilities, growth problems and osteoporosis:

All hydrogenated oils (margerine)
Soy, corn and safflower oils
Cottonseed oil
Canola oil
All fats heated to very high temperatures in processing and frying

you guys might want to look at a couple interesting discussions i had on the topic. i wrote lots of info these threads and answered some questions. there is a lot of info on these threads , its worth reading, a lot of people even even experienced bbers do not understand really using fats properly. they don't eat some of the best foods for growth and end up eating some of the worst like margarine . if you ready to have good read on nutrition take a look at the info in these threads and the links i included all over the place

also do not forget avocadoes. they are another great raw fat source. if you don't like the taste mix it with raw honey, reguler store processed honey is shit. raw honey is awesome, tons and tons of live enzymes that will have help you digest and process all your food better. remember its not always how much you eat but how much your body can use. that is why you need more raw fats , proteins and carbs no processed foods if you do this you will see a difference.
you need to get honey that is raw though and never heated. one company i use and like their products is

http://www.reallyrawhoney.com/

many of you use enzyme supplements, get it through real food, its much better for you. raw honey has tons of enzymes for digestion as does unripened green papaya and unripened pineapple

Yeah but!

Doesn't margarine have 1/2 the calories of butter? Oh wait! I'll just use half the amount of butter.... anyway… margarine just tastes like death coming at ya disguised as a yellowish colored goop… thing… whatever the hell it really is :)

smart balance is not butter nor margarine. It's a spread.
non-hydrogenated and trans fat free, Vitmins A and E, Omega 3 and 6, basically just flavored olive oil.
