TENDON INJURIES....

About 8 months ago I strained the tendons connecting my elbow to the forearm muscles in my right arm. It has proven to be both painful and slow to heal.

Any suggestions on treatments, supplements, etc.
It's affecting my bicep and lat training the most, but it also interferes with almost all aspects of my training involving grip strength.

Aaahhhh, tendonitis! been dealing with it myself for a while too bro. had some cortisone shots in the past which only help temporarily.
essential fatty acids are known to help with the inflammation.
I just recently started acupuncture (had my second treatment on Monday) kind of too soon to tell BUT I do notice a slight difference already.
It kept my Mother from having to have shoulder surgery a few years back.

tendonitis must run in the family

I've got it in my right elbow. It totally sucks. I've been doing what alfresco said and avoiding exercises that make it hurt. It a week off in July and another two weeks off the end of aug/beginning of sept. It is starting to feel better but it seems to take forever to heal.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's chronic, because this is like the third time I've had it in this elbow. This is the one that got broken in a car accident I was just talking about in Phil's "TRICEP TIPS" thread.

I love close grip. I've always done them because I have trouble with my right elbow and I seem to be limited to what exercises I can do for tri's. I was in a car accident in high school. The car flipped over and I was thrown half out of the car through the passengers side window. The car landed on my right arm, and it wasn't a clean break. The break was just above my elbow. When I do pushdowns with a straight bar, my elbow will locks out gives me a tingling feeling like when you hit your funny bone (but it's not funny). It also locks out when I do nose breakers/skull crushers (whichever you call them). A personal trainer worked with me on my tri's and said I might have some nerve damage there, maybe??

I can do pushdowns with a angled handle or rope, kick backs, db french presses overhead and close grips with no problems.

I TORE MY ELBOW TWICE......IT WAS TENNIS ELBOW THAT WENT WRONG LOL

I WAS DOING BEHIND NECK DB TRI EXTENSIONS (1 DB) AND MY ELBOW BOWED OUT AND POPPED I GOT A TINGLY FEELING.....WAS LIKE WTF...ABOUT 5 MIN LATER IT WAS SWOLLEN BLACK AND BLUE AND HUGE I DIDNT HIT IT ON NOTHIN SO I KNEW IT WAS TORN GOT IT CHECKED OUT AND SURE ENOUGH

Thanks everyone for your comments, expeience and suggestions.
I will try to avoid the repetitive injury route.
Is jello really just chicken cartilage?
and I really like the sugar free jello too.....sigh
Oh well....as long as its not chicken cartilage flavor.

this was from KRAFT Foods

"Gelatin is made from the skin and bones of animals -
not the meat: as per information that I have enclosed,
it can be considered Kosher, even if it
starts with pork skins/bones.

Would gh help in the recovery faster of tendonitis and other sports related injuries?

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am taking Aleve, lots of fish oils, using ice and of course avoiding anything painful to the affected tendons.

man this sucks!

Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen anyone recommend a counter force brace (aka tennis elbow brace). In case you are not familiar with it it is the brace that wraps around your forearm muscle. The brace has helped me a lot. It is a must when working out and I've been wearing it as much as I can during the day and that has really helped.

I've also started taking glucosamine and MSM. There is no difinitive research showing that it helps but I figure if there is even a chance it helps it is worth trying it. Besides I got it pretty cheap at costco so even if it doesn't help I didn't waste a lot of money on it.

good post

remember to not stretch for at least 3-4 weeeks after your trauma

i made that mistake and recovery took longer

stablitiy fibers need to strengthen around the area of trauma

yes braces are good bro........get them at ur local sports shop

even better than braces is the STRAP for tennis elbow, it looks like a mini velcrow belt........wraps around your elbow right below bone like a bracelet, holds that tendon to the bone like it should be,,,kinds of limits workouts but is def a necessity
