When Dusty was lying in a coma it got me thinking about my own GI "issues".
I was diagnosed with a Hiatal Hernia a few years back and have suffered from
GERD/LPR ever since. I've been taking PPI's, H2 Blockers and various medications/supplements
to mask the symptoms but not fix the root of the problem. Got off the PPI a while ago and switching
to an H2B only marginally improved my symptoms. Elevated the HOB, discovered my food triggers,
refrained from eating 3 hours before bed etc.
Dusty's near death experience lit a fire under my ass. Today I am having an 24 hour Impedance test
done. This Wed I'm having a colonoscopy and endoscopy as a f/u to my colon surgery a little over a
year ago. At the same time the Gastro is doing a Bravo 48 hr pH study.
If the info discovered from these pH tests shows a strong correlation with esophageal erosion along with
visual "unwanted" changes via the scoping then I'm likely going to need surgery to truly FIX the problem.
Now with John Meadows passing I'm questioning a lot of my past indiscretions. For the past 24 hours I
have done almost nothing but reflect on what I need to have in place in case I "checked out" unexpectedly.
Advanced health care directive. Will & trust. Mortgage/titles. College savings for my 16 and 11 year old daughters.
The burden it could place on my family w/o my share of the income rolling in every 2 weeks.
I've got good friends that are just as happy and blessed as I am but they don't subscribe to my lifestyle.
The hormone manipulation, the diet/supplementation. The almost blind/daily commitment in the gym...and they're
no worse off for it. In reality most are healthier than I am regularly surfing, hiking, running.
Sorry for the rant. Maybe it's my total test level being in the gutter right now or maybe I'm finally seeing clearly
for the first time in a long while.
