Very high calcium score. Looks like my PED use days are over...

Just got results of a calcium score test. A score of 400 is considered high. My score was 2250. Just found out a few minutes ago, and I'm going to be honest...I'm kind of scared right now. Thank God I'm already on Xarelto. Making appointments with pcp and cardiologist. Years of lousy diet bulking is finally catching up with me. Maybe I'll try to contact Dante to see if he can help me with a supplement plan to go with whatever meds they put me on. Don't look now guys, but I may be turning into the next Maldorf.

What's your age and height and weight? That's pretty high off the high value...

I'm 55 and haven't done any bulking for a long time, so I am currently 175 lbs.

Keep us updated on what the doctors reccomend?

Hope you’re able to reduce it significantly man. That’s scary

Just curious, is this a super accurate test?

Any chance the results are erroneous and should be validated with a second test?

I’ve just recently been looking into getting this done. Trying to find a way to schedule it on my own. I don’t have insurance and for some reason, everything cost more when it’s ordered by my doctor instead of me paying directly.

I'm not sure on the accuracy. I will probably be getting all kinds of tests done soon

That’s a pretty high score. Based on that number they will likely get you scheduled for a stat cath and CT angiogram to assess for blockages. Based on what they find they would fix any mild blockages at that time. To be transparent, at that score you will likely have multiple blockages that will require extensive stents or open heart. If not you’re extremely lucky.

For what it’s worth that score indicates decades of calcification building in the arteries. Once plaque forms the body will calcify those areas (layman’s terms) to ensure it does not break off to cause a heart attack. This doesn’t build up overnight.

Be positive that you caught this now and can get ahead of it, don’t let anyone rush you or fear you into a decision such as open heart as things have come a long way. If I can be of any help feel free to DM me. That’s what PM is for- we are all in this together.

That is a high score, you’ve definitely had some inflammation in your cardiovascular system.

The better news is that hard plaque is more stable and better than having soft plaque, and my sports cardiologist told me that most heart attacks happen when someone has a 20-30% blockage and it ruptures more so than those who have a 70% blockage of stable calcified plaque..

Also, that number is taking into account all your arteries and summing them together for a score. Still a high score, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a giant blockage in one artery.

And to answer, it’s a pretty damn accurate test for calcified plaque, and fairly cheap as most insurances don’t cover it, it’s usually $100…

You’ll definitely want to get a CTA done, which will tell you calcified plaque and soft plaque as well as any blockages and their severity..

A good cardiologist may even recommend a full cardiac MRI with contrast to see how the heart is functioning as well..

Do you have any symptoms with exertion? Shortness of breath? Palpitations? Etc?

How have your lipids been the past 2-3 decades? Ever have your Apo B and Lipoprotein (a) tested??

I would clean up your diet to an EXTREME level, stay super hydrated, take a ton of nattokinase and Kyolic garlic (helps keep the blood thin and from clotting and both have been shown to reduce plaque) and get those tests done as soon as possible…

Or definitely this.. Didn’t even think about that..

Depending where you are, they might call you in immediately for further testing and to fix the issue if what the doctor/cardiologist sees is significant calcium in one area, indicating possible blockages there..

I wish you the best man, fortunately you caught this before anything happened to you!

You just gave me some peace of mind. Thank you for the info.

In my experience with a score this high a good cardiologist will skip the red tape and go straight for a heart cath with a CT angiogram as they can assess damage and blockages at the same time while fixing any immediate dangers if they find any.

I fully agree with you though on the diet overall and inflammation. If not the root cause is never solved.

First off, don't get ahead of yourself! Are you a diabetic? Calcified plaque is always higher in diabetics.
If the calcified plaque is spread out then it may not be an immediate risk. If it's 'clustered' in any areas, then it can be a blockage issue. Your next step will be finding just that. If you do have a considerable blockage or blockages, then the cardiologist will determine whether or not you're a candidate for a stent/stents. If not, then bypass surgery would be the next step. I wrote about a friend of mine in the Definitive Health Thread. He's a Type II diabetic and his score was 2,175. He had 3 blockages, no symptoms, and one of the blockages was a widowmaker that was 98% blocked. He was not a candidate for stents. He had a triple bypass at the age of 67. He recovered well and at age 70 continues to workout, hike, travel, etc. So again, don't get ahead of yourself!!

One thing to note, they didn't do surgery right away. Once they determined the blockages, they put him a vasodialator to open things up. It took about a month or so, before my friend had his bypass surgery.

No symptoms. My total cholesterol on the last 3 yearly checkups 128, 131, 130. HDL about 40 all years.

It's very accurate. It's a CT scan. Insurance doesn't cover the test unless you already have a heart issue and the test is necessary. It's roughly $150 give or take. My test was $150.

Sorry ta hear this brotha....what a wake up call. Got to take care of yourself so that you can take care of the family around you. You are still young. Prayers are with you.

Study of 1 but one of my best friends(I was his best man) got a CAC score in the 2300's(can't remember exact) when he was 58 years old. He just had his 72nd birthday and his recent score was 2230. Not that it went down, but probably a difference in readings from one to the other. That said, stable.
He's currently on a cruise around the world with a few drinks a day and smaller meals of the same stuff he used to eat big on.

If you've stopped pushing calories a while back and find/have an adhearable supplement and training routine that will improve your CV health then it sounds like you're at a rough spot(mentally) along a better path.
