When I started lifting (14) the supps available were few and very expensive. I was told by some then old timers to go and spend my money on food and lots of it. But trust me, Being young and foolish when I got some cash I was into the first generation protein powders. Egg white protein. Man was this shit rank. Buy hey, they said it would make me big so I did it. At least it was egg white albumen protein. So it really wasn't all that bad, but it was horrible to drink. I should have listened to the old timers back then.........LOL!

I must say, Bill Phillips got me good with his "Sports Supplement Review" book in the late 90s, which was really just a long catalog of EAS products. If it was in that book, there was a damn good chance I was taking it.

For the first 6 months that I was accualy putting a consistant effort in at the gym 3 days a week I bought everything under the sun they told me would help. 99% of it didn't do anything but cause bad gas...
I've taken it all, Superpump, Sizeon, Halodrol, Vapor, Halo, Black Powder, Creatine, Stupid test boosters...
All a big waste of money...

I now take Protein, Flax oil, Multi-V, and TP's Buzzsaw pre-workout stuff.

I have been reading this forum for a while and have never posted anything but this thread really brought back some memories. The first supplement that I ever took was suggested to me by some overweight, bluehaired, lady at GNC...BORON!!! WTF!!! And after this it was follwed up by the obligatory Smilax, Dibencozide, Vanadyl Sulfate, Hot Stuff and Hot Stuff XX, Mus-L-Blast 2000, Egg White Protein, etc... Unbelievable yet funny looking back on it.

i was lucky....

The first gym i joined at 15 or 16 ( i was about 140lbs) was owned by a guy who was from brooklyn ny. Him and his buddies were hardcore bodybuilders from the 70's and 80's. Everyday when i went in he'd smile and say..."hey! did u eat your d-bol for breakfast"? i had no idea at the time what d-bol was.... but his friends would laugh so i did too hahah. The guy was really cool, and would always give me different workouts to do since i had no idea what i was doing...and always told me to stay away from the shit gnc sold...told me tuna, chicken and steak were my friends I actually ran into him last year.... dude was old and jacked!! i told him i finally had my dbol for breakfast!!

That's the first book I ever read on nutrition. It's a little outdated now but still a good read. I recommend it to a lot of beginners that I come across.
