Just curious on how much some of you monsters eat. I had the biggest calorie intake today I've ever had in my life. I was wondering how big some of you guys eat. Anyone at 10k? Anyone at over 500g of protein a day?

highest calorie intake that helped me break a weight barrier this offseason

i got up to around 7500 calories, protein was well over 400, into the 5's most days.. not sure exactly where. grew like a monster.

I enjoy eating. But I wish I could eat and eat! I would do extra cardio just so I could eat more but I hate cardio.

You shouldn't mess around with Mother Nature.

You guys that want to eat like this are going to hurt yourselves real bad not only short term but in the long run as well.

There is a reason that elephants eat one way and Sparrows eat another way. Reverse that and what do you think will happen?

If you are taking enough gear to metabolize 7,000 - 10,000 calories a day, the eating isn't your biggest concern.

I only drink sparkling mineral water with a twist of lemon and a salad with no-fat dressing on the side.

I am a newbie to training 2 years off and on 1 year really hard

However been working as a bricklayers labourer for 3 years now anybody who knows anything about this trade knows its a workout in itself . My job consists of setting up scaffolds which involves moving 20 ft 4" by 1' planks that weigh about 80-100 pounds multiple times during the day. And bricks and Mortar all day long at a very quick pace. Each brick weighs 3lbs and i carry anywhere from 6-12 18 -36lbs and a full shovel of mortar = 20-25 pounds. I am really lean 5'8 165 pounds but hard as a rock abs are not visible but i have 9-10% body fat how this is possible i dont know. I do not take any gear and I need to consume 5500 calories a day to maintain weight on training and work days, and 3300 calories just for laying around all day. I think im up there in the caloric intake so to gain i would need to take 6000 cals without gear if i was on gear id be up there and remember im only 5'8 165. LOL

I am a wine and cheese (brie) on melba toast guy

Merlot with bitter dark chocolate.

I can't imagine consuming double my maintenance calories. I occassionally self justify 1000 calories over maintenance because, although it's never happened, I might miraculously put on more muscle than 500 over.

I wish I had the genetics to put on 30 pounds of muscle year over year but sadly next year I'm shooting for an unrealistic goal of 10 pounds of lean meat while sticking a gram a week of test in my ass. I'll probably only get 5 or 6.

Ever checked out any life extension boards or the like? If any of those people ever read this kind of forum I know they'd think we were a bunch of nuts. I used to be caught up in the 'eat big to get big' routine, then a few here got me thinking in a different way. I understand some of us have high aspirations, and certain goals require certain sacrifices but health should always be a top concern. As i get older i continue to learn and adapt my way of thinking. These crazy amounts of calories arent needed. Show me any studies that state eating 1000-1500 cals over what your body needs will lead to significantly more muscle than slightly above maintanence (they could be out there). I realize a 250lb lean man is going to need significantly more cals than a 200lb man (especially on aas). However, I can't seem to justify eating copious amounts of food that may not be needed. This may be a crazy thought, however, it's a typical 'western' way of doing things. We take much more than we really need (most of us, this is a generalization). Cars, money, food, material items... at what point will we realize enough is enough. Stop taking in excess... especially when there is no benefit. Shoot, I LOVE to eat, I am a restaurant owner, I make a living on people who like to eat well. But why do something that could shorten a good life? Just my current thoughts, no disrespect meant, it's only something I've been pondering lately.

I was actually wondering this myself I know 2 huge eaters though & 1 is an ifbb pro & there other is 270's range 5'9(about 9%bf) & only about 25yo....so I think there is a connection

I gotta disagree with you here. Why? Because if an elephant were to eat like a sparrow what would happen to it?? Now that sounds dangerous. If you weigh 240 lbs and eat for 240 lbs guess what you will weigh in a year...240. You need to eat above what is needed to stay the same if you want to grow, train hard enough for it to be necessary, and rest enough for that hard work and food to become muscle.

I know you are one of Phil's guys but I think you are misunderstanding what he means by eat when hungry. If you train your Fing ass off you will be ravenous and you will eat a ton thus grow.

Good Points Dusty, when attaining your current size, did you take in these lofty amounts of calories mentioned in this thread 7500-10k? Everyday, for months on end? Or did you 'toggle' calories up and down? Based on your activity levels and such for a day? You are probably one of the biggest, leanest guys here so just wondered how you went about it?

Dusty I agree with but the point of my analogy was this. The elephant has no idea how much he is supposed to be eating each and everyday, nor did he have to figure out how much he had to eat to grown into his elephant size. Genetically Elephants grow to a certain size range as they mature they keep eating to support this growth. If they don't eat enough they could possibly starve to death and if they ate the amount of a sparrow they would do it rather quickly. The Sparrow just like the elephant is only supposed to be so big. Eating to much would cause him to not be able to fly and ultimately die.
All of us have our own genetic makeup, those of us that have decided to bodybuild need to understand what we are. A guy who is a natural 175LBer can't magically turn into a 260LBer in a short amount of time by stuffing themselves. They might get to 260 but there won't be any quality. If your genetic makeup is such you will grow eating the amount you are supposed to eat, maybe a little more but not excessivly more.

Just my opinion

brad, im like you. have to eat a shit load to grow. and if im not eating tons then the gear is useless. im pretty sure its more healthy to eat 5000 cal. a day than some doses i have tried in the past.

but for me its impossible to consistantly eat like that every day. i usually eat around 5-6000 cal. for about 3-4 days straight and then i will only eat around 2500 for the next two days. i honestly believe that it holds me back. if i could figure out how to do it daily, i would be very pleased.

like today i woke up and my appetite is dead, i feel like i have acid in my stomach, and indigestion....

i think that if i could eat that many calories of clean food it may help but, thats out of my budget. and i dont have time to prepare all of that.

That's the thing. Everyone needs a different amount of calories to grow. I dont think I've ever met someone with a metabolism like mine. My maintenance is about 4500 calories at a bw of 170. But it depends on my lifestyle too, which changes a lot. I didn't start gaining weight until I was consistantly eating clean at 5500 cals a day.

And as for the whole eating when hungry analogy, that's great if you're normal and have an appetite. But for me, Besides before my workout and after my workout, I'd be perfectly happy going ALL DAY without eating. No appetite at all. And while I completely agree with Dusty about if you want to be 250, eat like you're 250, I dont really agree with "if you're training your balls off, you're going to be hungry all day". It's possible it might be like that for most people, but I guess I'm one of the exceptions. It also probably makes a difference that I'm not using yet. So maybe that will change when i'm ready.

This stuck out to me, I like to see the choice of calories you are eating. I have about the fastest metabolism going and at 4000 calories, I am weighing 230. It has alot to do with the quality of foods and the nutrient enriched ones that spark muscle growth. Who cares about how many calories you eat anyways? I for one, like the look all year of someone who looks the part, just not for a show.

I do agree with Dusty, in some aspects. I wouldn't gain any weight more then I am at now, probally if I didn't eat more. However, to throw you guys off a little, I am eating the same amount of calories, when I was 15 pounds less. Can you explain that? I can, the choice of the calories, involved and some other factors.

This has been my diet. the only real differentiation is what kind of greens I have and a few times a week I'll have added cheat meals (last night i had around 3000 cals at steak n shake)

meal 1

3/4 cup oats
40-50g flax seed
16 oz oj
2 scoops of whey

meal 2
4 egg whites plus 1 whole egg
5-7oz of chicken (sometimes more is left over so i just eat 7, but shoot for 5)
3tbs evoo
1 flinstone vitamin :D

m3-
10 oz red meat (steak, pork chop)
12oz sweet potato
1 cup of spinach

m4
5 egg whites
5 oz chicken
3 tbs evoo

PWO-
3 cups of apple juice
3-5 tbs of dextrose? (i dont measure this)
3 scoops protein

meal 5-
9 egg whites plus one whole egg
one large bagel
1/2 cup of broccoli (although sometimes i skip this)

m6-
2 cups whole milk
1 cup of cottage cheese

we arent elephants, were people. everything reacts differently to food. If your 200 pounds, you will not get to 250 pounds eating like a 200 pound man. Its common sense.

It looks like a good diet BRad. I can tell you mine is different.

Come on, your pulling my leg, a Flintstone vitamin.:D
