WHO GETS UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT FOR PROTEIN?

I've been reading about a lot of big time bodybuilders who do this. I'm thinking about giving it a try. Right now I just eat a meal with the macros phil has me on. For those of you that get up to down some protein, walk us through your pre-bed meal and your meal for in the middle of the night. Also, how many hours into your bed time do you get up for it?

Brad, I drink so much water that I wake up at around three am no matter what!

So...I have a couple scoops of protein mixed with water while staggering to the refridgerator. That's pretty much my routine. :)

I also press play on one of my audio-books ( because I like a good bed time story every night) and rack out again.

I do this. I usually do just 1 or 2 scoops about 4 1/2 to 5hrs into my sleep. some nights I will have 1 scoop like 3hrs in and 1 6 hrs in. I just leave a shaker and my nalgene by my bed side and make it and fall back asleep.
b4 bed I just hit eaither omega whole brown eggs or cottage cheese. sometimes almonds. I usually drink about 1/2 gallon of water also throughout the night.

GEEZ- do you do any actual sleeping when you're in bed? :D

^BUMP..good question!!! I have wondered how many actually do this? I ALWAYS seem to get up at least a couple times during the middle of the night but ive never put down a shake or anything when I woke up...interested to see who all does this?

last meal pre bed- 6-8 oz chicken breast with 1 slice of cheese. mid sleep bout 3-4 hours in, 4 scoops powder 8oz of water 3 tbs almond butter yum yum.

Sleep is for sleep.
The only reason I'd eat something is if. 1. I got up in the middle of the night 2. I was actually hungry..3. if I could get done eatting ina bout 2 mins.
Food is not worth sacrificing sleep over...IE if I cant fall back asleep when I get done eatting.
The best idea would to just suck down some LBAs.

another good point, which reminds me of the fact that once I fall alseep, I usually dont wake up until its time to start my day.

For those of you who do the "intra-bed meal" how much do you think this helps you grow? And are there any studies that say doing this really jacks up protein synthesis?

I leterly pee in my sleep. I get up and go to the bathroom without waking up. been drinking alot of water for a LONNGGG time. just got my body so use to it that I dont wake up. and I can easily fall back asleep when I do wake up to pee. I also wear ear plugs, seems to help alot for getting into a deep sleep/

yeah I sleep actually pretty damn good.

I asked a similar question about a month ago, cuz I sometimes go a solid 10 hrs without eating thru the night. And the general consensus was, that as long as you're eating ample calories/protein during the day to grow, then you're all set. Keep the night for sleep.

Just like JT I drink so much water that the very few hours I sleep are always interrupted by at least 2-3 trips to the bathroom. I take advantage of it to eat. :p

But not just protein, as I feel it's pretty useless on its own... I also have some fats and some carbs. Well, I guess I could call that a meal! Lol! :D I don't mind eating some solid food at 3 or 4 AM, as I usually sleep much better afterwards. :)

YES

like some of you I have to pee at least once or twice, but I CAN'T fall back to sleep if I am hungry, so I always have cottage cheese in the fridge and usually just have one then go back to sleep. It's quick, and easy ( no prep). On workout nights I just eat one right before bed, 40 grams of protien and I don't wake up in the morning starving like usual. Plus even though I wake up hungry, I have trouble eating anything first thing before my coffee and BCAAs.

i actually wanted to try this but I'm having trouble as it is sleeping. Don't wanna do anything to make it even worse.

My bedtime meal is around 60-70 grams of pastuerized egg whites and 15 grams fish oil.

Sleep like a baby. Especially now that I sleep with my CPAP. No more waking up 10-20 times a night.

Thats what I like to hear! I will say it again.......only eat when hungry also means eat when hungry.........good job JC

I tried this last night guys. Kept a glass of lba's on m night stand and when I woke up in the middle of the night, I drank it down. It was actually kind of nice because I didnt wake up in the morning wanting to eat my own hand like I usually do. I think I'm going to start doing this and see if I notice a difference. Should I add 10g of evoo to my lba's? and what would be the best carb source?

If I do eat which I do not very much since I am in zombie mode, but it will usually be 8oz. skim milk with LBA's or a handful of almonds.

2 scoops of casein and a tablespoon of Almond Butter. Drink 1/2 before bed, 1/2 when i wake up to piss. And instead of making a trip to the bathroom, I use my trusty piss container, and fall back to sleep immediately. Sometimes ill pop a sleep aid for an extra hour or 2 of sleep.

Depends, is that a meal, or an LBA between meals?
