I'm with you Gary, and you were one of the best bodybuilders on the early 90s. As for the bloated WBBF, they drug tested the events (remember?) so they did not come in as crisp as they would have with all the drugs.
I actually hate bodybuilding now, the big gut is a turn off. I like the old look of the 90s, tight and large but still looked good. This is probably why they started the men's fitness to take the place.

It's all politics it's only about who they can sell. If you have a massive decent build and a good personality and getting exposure you could be a top contender.

Very very true. While he did have a nice physique,,I admired his WIDE shoulders,,,he did lack in other areas,,,as pictured in the back pose.

Because in comparing himself to Dorian circa 1993, claiming that he deserved to stand next to him because there were "currently 2 'bests'" he lost any credibility with regard to discussing physique assessment.

To say nothing of his "comebacks".

And he still had a middleweight back on a super-heavy body.

totally allowed to disagree but "shut the fuck up" to an iffb pro.... I don't know what standards you hold but in my opinion being an IFBB PRO kinda puts you ahead of the pack and kinda makes your opinion valid.

internet bodybuilder posers and youngsters who know nothing about what it takes to excel at anything..... yeah, I am gonna go with stfu and listen.....

I completely agree with the comments made by JS. Of course everyone here is entitled to their opinions and can disagree with anyone, but please show a little class. This is a community and an intelligent one at that. The "stfu" comment directed towards one of the great IFBB pros of his day only degrades your own rep on here and is useless. I appreciate JS stepping up and calling these guys out. You have my respect brother.

while i think gary still and has a great physique.. he did lack in bodyparts.. his back especially.. gary always said he did not want a big back but a "athletic" back.. i have to say, with all due repspect, that is b.s. it was simply a bodypart gary could bot bring up no matter what he did.. it happens.. now, as a pro bodybuilder, i would rather be lacking in the calf dept than the back dept..

as for what people prefer.. guys, freaks sell.. go to the expos.. people lined up to get their photos with the freaks.. freaks sell magazine covers.. people may not always want to look like a freak but they sure as hell want to the freak at the shows.. and what matters is who is buying the supplements and the show tickets.. ask any publisher what sells.. and its branch warren, old markus ruhl, jay cutler, kai ect.. people that buy the tickets want to see cartoonish kai came out.. not a haidar posing to "wind beneath my wings"..

mens physique was put in for more guys to do for one reason.. they bring their loved ones and family with them.. so if ya get 30 contestants in mens physique they bring 3 people or more with them.. more ticket sales.. plus each competitor has to buy a entry fee ect.. the npc is not dumb.. its about trying to get more money any way they can.. hell give them time and they will have pole dancing competitions.. unfortuantely it might be true lol.. but the hardcore fans is what keeps the shows going.. they buy the supplements ect.. but when ya add things like bikini and mens physique it drives the tickets up more.. plus its easier to do mens physique and womens bikini.. so more will do it.. for the time being at least..

Gary is spot on. This sport has chosen to go down the wrong road. Synthol ... really ... the extremely distended stomachs? Should have held the conditioning course with Bob Paris and Lee Labrada. The sport has gone to extremes. And for the haters on Gary ... he is in great shape in his 40's and 50's.
