just curious as to why insulin is thought to decrease quad seperation. i've heard it a number of times over the past few years but have never heard a reason why.
Steak Helmet said:someone was saying the DEXTER JACKSON does not like insulin for that reason...it causes too much fat build up betwen muscle fibers that when it comes to contest prep, it is a lot harder to acheive that deep cuts look
flexmaster said:i read something by magnum about how insulin stores fat within a muscle itself, but it seems to only affect quad seperation (or maybe it's just most apparent there?)...either way, i would love to hear some more about this. magnum, skip, phil ect...feel free to state your opinions/ideas

interesting skip...your experience with contest prep is exactly why i wanted you to chime in as well...not to mention those slabs o' beef you call legs. so, in your opinion, what is the cause of lack of quad seperation recently?Skip said:I would like to know whether they are avoiding insulin because they HEARD or READ about it or if they experienced it. I have yet to experience this from a condition standpoint and, in fact, off the top of my head I can think of at least 5 of my guys that if this were true, I don't know how much more seperated their quads could possibly get.

here's an example of dexter jackson, someone known for being cut and dry, yet his quads seem to be not even close to as lean as the rest of him. i've wondered if the reason could possibly be something other than insulin...???Skip said:If you are refering to the pros, I don't know because I haven't seen many pics of the pros for quite a while. I don't follow the pros much at least until I have kept an eye on Phil Heath after watching him rise so quickly here in Colorado. Personally, I think the conditioning at the pro level has always been second best to National level conditioning with the exception of only a few.
In all honesty, this is the first I have heard anyone talk about insulin being related to the lack of quad detail and, again, I just don't see it with myself, my guys, close friends that are competitors, etc.. I prep quite a few prep guys and they don't have the problem, either.

do you think it could be from something other than slin?Magnum said:From what I know Dexter never uses insulin. I have noticed the the lack of quad seperation too. Some people have a hard time flexing there upper quads. I have seen pics where Dexters upper quads look fine and otheres not so good. You also have to realize that in some pics he maybe not have starting to flex them yet.
