I was reading my print version of The Economist last night and ran
across this article called What's cooking? The evolutionary role of
cookery. The article is available online, you can access it via the
link above.

Some very interesting points being made about what cooking does
to food and the metabolic cost of digestion.

Interesting read, I've also read that humans evolved by eating protein(via meat) which ended up giving us increased brain capacity. Just one factor in the evolution of the intelligence of our species.
