How did you prep yourself for your most successful workouts?? One consistency that i have found personally is a really good nights sleep.. If i can get in a quality 10 hour sleeping session, i will have a top quality workout the next day.. By that i mean my strength is very good, my ability to grind out extra reps (lack of lactic acid buildup), and my joints feel really good.. Im sure my consistent 6 meals a day with healthy snacks between helps.. But i wonder how i can consistently get those top quality workouts.. What do others notice..

Maybe Front loading simple carbs the night before.. Maybe its consistent complex carbs the day you workout.. Maybe its jacking up protein intake on workout day... What works for others.. If i could dial this in every workout, then i would be one happy camper...
 
Well, mine doesnt involve putting anything in your body. I just get pump by know I am going to hit the iron hard and cause some damage! Having others who are stronger and bigger than me, REALLY pushes me beyond my limit!

This is something strange that has happened to me numerous times over many years. Some of my very best workouts come when I'm really dreading to workout,,too tired and making every excuse not to train,,,but do it anyhow. I've set personal records on nights like that.
 
anger.. if im mad my lifting is beast.. i have been destroying the gym lately..
 
I am more Pavlovian in my training. I use triggers to push myself.
 
Some of my best and most strongest workouts have been on days when I have felt like crap,lethargic and wonder if I should go to the gym at all.
But once wormed up had incredible strength.
 
My best workouts come when I push myself so hard mentally with the amount of weight that I couldn't previously handle and pull it off. I too have gotten my best results from pushing myself when I didn't feel like going to the gym.
 
I usually train around 5:30 pm. Sometimes I get off work early enough to grab a short (45min) power nap. Once I get moving after that nap I am good to go. Another thing that helps me is focusing on exactly what I am going to do in the gym earlier in the day. When I go into the gym completely focused and I know exactly what I am going to do I perform much better.

if i have a small amount of healthy carbs the night before with my last meal and 2 meals with carbs and fast digesting protiens before my workout. eggs, lba, and brown rice with a green veggie seem to be the magic combination for me pre workout.
 
it is typically when i am really pissed/frustrated about something or when i have a debate with myself about whether or not i should go in to lift because i am feeling tired/worn down

Question for you . . if you are sleeping 10hrs a day, eating
6 meals a day and snacking in between, and I assume you
work for a living, then you go to the gym and train, when do
you find the time to live a life, have relationships, education,
etc . . . ?

Going to bed early on a Sunday night... Maybe its an off day from the gym so i can get to bed early... Im fortunate enough to have a job where i work 7-8 hours a day.. And my commute is only 12 minutes.. So that leaves me alot of free time..

To be honest, just the thought of training does it for me. I played football and wrestled and did well in both, but there is nothing I love more than weight training. Mind you Im only 5'5. I started training in high school. During my Mid School years, I was the fat kid. 240lbs 5'5 at 14. Carrying this weight around, helped my legs. By my senior year in high school, I was benching 365lbs with my back flat on the bench and no chest bouncing. I also believed in training legs hard once a week. We only trained 3 days a week, and 1 whole day I devoted just to legs. My best squat that year at 18 years of age, with no supplement, gear, or bodybuilding knowledge behind me, got an 805lb box squat. I know it's just a box squat, but to get under 805 and actually move it was awesome to me.

Ever since then, I have just loved to push weight around. Being as short as I am, I've been able to build some good thickness. I train Monday through Friday and bust my butt during my gym sessions. Mind you I pull 8-12 hour shifts in a Coal Fired Power Plant. It's nothing for it to get up to 185 degrees on certain floors during the summer. So after working in that all day, then I go train. I just take in a simple whey shake with a piece of fuit and a multivitamin. I think what helps me do this, is I get a bare minimum of 7 hours of sleep per night.
 
packed gym ( i do better when i feel i should show off)
caffeine pill (kick and NO preWO products ass and is much cheaper)
good tracklist on my ipod
a good meal about an hour before

thats about all i need i actually had my strongest bench day last winter i got 395x1 and i ate a fried chicken meal 30 minutes prior to my workout that was jsut odd
 
My best workouts come the day after a night of beer drinking.

I get insane pumps and look really full.
 
Back in the day when I played football and wrestled, I would always visualize what I was going to do and play back certain senarios in my head and figure out a plan of attack. I also do this for each and every workout on my commute to the gym. Helps me get focused and siked for the workout.
