first off yes... i will be seeing a doctor.

it almost feels like trapped gas because i have actually been belching a lot lately but have never had problems with gas. Usually happens only when i eat or shortly thereafter... i just took some phazyme (for gas) and some zantac (for heartburn) but it honestly feels like a cracked rib if you have ever had one. Could this be a lung problem I am unaware of or am I on the right path thinking it is gastro related? I am taking ALA at high dosages but it has never been a problem before. I incresed my fiber intake with psyllium husk and increased my water to 1.5 gallons per day and i thought it had helped but it is back again with a vengeance. I work out in the AM before ingesting food or i wouldn't be working out at all right now... this sucks and waiting to see a doctor is a pain in the ass.

Is it happening mostly when you eat? Especially fatty meals? If so, then it might be gallstones.

on the left side though... so far my nurse freind said possibly hiedal (sp?) hernia? Wonder what kind of weird tests they are gonna run.

If you had a hiatel hernia, you would likely be getting a LOT of heartburn (acid reflux). It's still a possibility.

First thing to ask is: Did you do anyting different recently that might explain this - new excercise, change rep scheme, etc.?

If it hurts when you take a deep breath, it could be as simple as a strained intercostal muscle. This osmetimes happens to people when they first start running because they're not used to breathing so deeply, and their intercostals are being stretched.

Could aslo be some sort of splenic inflammation that enlarges the spleen.

Could also be some sort of block or spasm at the left cloic flexure - have your bowel habit changed at all since this started?

Just some possibilities - I'm probably missing more than I'm listing.

Hope yuo're doing better soon!

Does it come and go, and when it comes, does it hurt only when you breathe? As in, if you hold your breath, the pain stops?

it started a few weeks ago and then stopped after a few days... it came back this week with a vengance.... it hurts when i breathe but not everytime i breathe... and i have been belching like crazy and i never have had probs with bleching before.

It could possibly be a diagphram problem; if you have any friends that are in the ortho/sportsmed field see if they can't do a release on you; that may help.

well the doc decided an ultrasound will be the best start with testing... sometimes the gall bladder can hurt on the opposite side of it's location... so it is a place to start anymow.
