pulled hammy. tendon or muscle?

hey guys so its been almost a week since I strained my hamstring doing lying leg curls. I warmed up correctly and didnt try anything "crazy" with weight since im dieting. I did the first rest pause with the stack plus ten pounds for fourteen reps. set felt very good and strong. I started to do the second rest pause set and got to rep number two and felt a huge "POP" in my right-lower hammy. the weight came slamming down and I left the gym hardly making it down the stairs. does this sound like a muscular strain or a pulled tendon? there is pretty bad bruising on part of my calve and lower hamstring that showed up a few days later. it got kind of swollen so I iced it. i dont have health insurance so seeing the doc right now is out of the question. any feedback will help. thanks guys!

i'd say you tore it man. pain walking down the stairs and the bruising/swelling are bigtime signs. if you dont have health insurance there's not too much you can do about it. sorry but really the only things YOU can do are ice and rest. when you do eventually go back to the gym TAKE IT SLOW!!! feel free to pm me when you do get back to the gym about how to condition your hamstring. just want to reiterate that you will have to be patient man, give it time.

The "pop" feeling is not good at all. Sounds like a tear to me. Give it lots of time to heal and take it very easy. You sure you don't want it looked at?

hey thanks bro It felt like a tear lol. I will def take it slow going back im almost afraid to train it. im sure the low carbs didnt help me much. do you think deep tissue massage would be beneficial or do you think I should avoid the area for longer? im still in the gym but avoid hammy stuff. any ideas on rehabing it? thanks again.

of course i want it looked at it was the first thing i thought of lol but the no insurance thing kinda does me in I cant afford 1K+ in hospital bills.

I am curious why the reference to DC training in the title of your thread.

Skip

Me too. If your going to put that in your title at least do the program to the T.

This is why Dante gets so pissed and i understand.

I too was thinking the same thing...are you blaming him for your actions? Maybe you were just trying to tell us taht you did while following a modified version of his training style?

??

From his post..........how do you figure he bastardized the DC program? Sorry to hear about the hammie. Time and pateince is what it will take?

Frome Dantes interview
Hamstrings:
lying leg curls (15-30rp)
seated leg curls (15-30rp)
sumo press leg press (pressing with heels only- straight set of 15-25 reps)

LOL thank you for having my back bro I was simply making a statement about the training intensity it took to tear it. and everybody knows dc'ers train just as hard if not harder than anyone out there so im not bashing the program AT ALL its the shit and ive had the best gains ever from it.

You choose 1 exercise from the hamstring exercises above for 1 set...not all of the exercises. Thats why.

Yes, basically you tore it. More than likely just a partial tear or you would really know it. Ice and rest are you best options along with massage or Active Release Technique therapy.

thanks for the reply man. lying hammy curls was the only one I chose. I warmed up pretty good and hit it hard. I guess it was too much for my leg to handle. its def tore my upper calve is all black and blue and my whole lower hammy from inside to outside is black and blue as well lol. I guess live and learn. thanks for all the feedback guys I really appreciate it.

I will be the first to admit---thats really really weird to me.

If i tore my hamstring after doing 14 reps on lying leg curls doing Ronnie Colemans, or Jay Cutlers, or Westsides, or GVT's, or Bulgarian's, or Max-OT's, or Jolly Fats Weehawkins, or Richard Simmons lifting for the hardcore, or whoever pro routine is in the latest flex...... I would come on a message board and say

Subject line: Darnit tore my hamstring today doing lying leg curls, I warmed up good and had already did 14 solid reps.....man this sucks

I wouldnt put

Subject Line: Jay Cutlers routine.....tore my hamstring

What routine were you using when you did this?

Thats just really weird to me.....

Hey blame my methods if you want....and Ill even apologize for your hamstring tear myself....but honestly how many guys reading this very post right now have done lying leg curls for 14 reps before.

(I raise my hand)

How many of you guys have done lying leg curls using ANY method and done 14 reps before?

Is DC training to blame for that? Or bad luck?

I dont get it.

agreed

i dont really know what to say to that but I wasnt saying the program is at fault I was trying to be as specific as possible to get the best feedback, thats all. i love the program dont get me wrong. I thought lying leg curls was an approved excercise for DC for 15-30 reps RP?

it is.

And I feel for you for the hamstring injury--it sucks royally. My apologies that you have suffered that injury on the lying leg curl machine.

The title was just a little misleading to me and a few others that read it

Here is where i may be reading this wrong. I thought you were saying you were doing 2 rest/pause sets which DC only has you doing 1.

Either way, the title implied DC training tore your hammy, which after pm'ing you is not what you were trying to say.....BUT IT SEEMED LIKE IT AT FIRST. Thats why people are jumping on you.

Dante has done a ton for the bodybuilding community and you have to understand of course we're going to take up for the guy. So basically just a misunderstanding/communication glitch?

Here Jesse let me explain it to the way I looked at it

Lets say you were my contest prep guy and I used your dieting advice to diet down for my show ok?

and the title of my thread was this

TITLE: Contest Prep with jesse7159.....I have a bleeding Ulcer

Now is Jesse7159 responsible for my bleeding ulcer? No i have a bleeding ulcer and it sucks -- bad luck-- or too much stress in my life or whatever.

Can you see how that could be read wrong?
