Heard new drug czar speak about AAS....u'll be surprised of his views.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was at a luncheon where Gil Kerlikowske the new drug czar spoke. The quote on the screen behind him was from the former Seattle Police Chief:
"We've spent a trillion dollars prosecuting the war on drugs," "What do we have to show for it? Drugs are more readily available, at lower prices and higher levels of potency. It's a dismal failure."
Then in a few minutes Kerlikowske got up and spoke. He spoke to the DC urban league which is mainly an african american audience. So he did speak to the disparity in sentencing of minorities to whites even though drug use is the same across ethnic boundaries. that was just a small bit of the talk.
He did talk about arresting a body builder/power lifter for AAS who was a model citizen when he was in law enforcement. He listed off a number of things the guy did for the community. In fact other than lifting, he gave his life to the disadvantaged. He said as they raided his house the got testosterone and a bunch of healthy food....lol
Kerlikowske talked about the strong armed tactics used to put aas on the controlled substance list even though the DEA and FDA where vehemently against it. He sited a study that showed the average aas users does not participate in sports, has a college education and has no prior felony convictions...in his words "good guys". he said if sports wants to get rid of aas in sports they should do so but it should not be at the cost of a accountant who wants to add a few pounds or a police officer who would like to get a little stronger.
He will be pushing the decriminalization of most drugs and concentrate on violent crimes not drug use. Senator Webb will also be pushing the agenda. If you have a thug that hurts folks put the bastard in prison and throw a way the key.
He said drugs do destroy families and neighborhoods but treatment needs to be pushed. Prisons is a cottage industry that has been seen as a revenue stream. The US imprisons more of its population than any other country and most for non violent drug offenses. it cost an average of 40,000 dollars to incarcerate a person and that money should be used for better things.
What I found interesting is he really hit hard on AAS. Lets see what happens over the next few yrs.
At the end of the talk a person asked about Bidens push for crimilization of AAS.....Kerlikowske said I do not report to Biden I have the President's ear and we are on the same page.
The last question was again about aas, and older guy asked about "a bunch of juiced up roid raged guys". Kerlikowske said roid rage is a myth, there are as many studies that show a calming affect as a aggressive affect...
I left there with hope....maybe we will get it??????
