Goulash...the food of champions

This is a food my Mom used to make when money was tight, but is full of positive calories and nutritional value. There are a million varieties since this dish is based on mixing leftovers...here's a healthy version that tastes great.

1 bag natural whole wheat veggie spiral pasta (half bag is fine for higher protien cal ratio), boil, strain, no rinse.

1 can corn, simmer, drain.

2 pounds/or more 99% fat free ground turkey, brown with chop onions, garlic powder, mrs. dash salt free, crushed red pepper, black pepper.

Put all ingredients in a big pot, add 1 1/2 cans of tomato paste, 6 chopped brown mushrooms, 2 chopped tomato's, heat on low/stir/cover to get an even mix 10 min.

I also like to add any raw veggies I'm craving, broccoli esp. Fat free shreded/cheese does wonders too. This is power food and the best part is the longer it sits in the fridge the better it tastes so you are never without a healthy burst of food (keeps me from cheating). Keep using the spices to add flavor if needed and you can add just about anything-keep it healthy. *B*
 
My wife is the queen of Goulash, hahaha I have no idea how she manages to put all the extras from previous nights dinners in one pot. But hey, hats off to her and all the other Goulash chefs of the world! :D
 
Hungarian style goulash

BEEF GOULASH WITH NOODLES

1 large onion
2 lbs beef chuck
4 tbsp flour
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 1/2 cups beef or chicken broth
1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp pepper and 1tsp salt
3 tsp red vinegar
2 bay leaves
3 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon paprika
1 pkg egg noodles

In 4 quart pot, sauté onions in oil for about 3 minutes or until they become soft. Meanwhile, dredge meat in flour.

Sauté on both sides until brown; add remaining ingredients. Cover pot and simmer or low flame and cook for 90 minutes. Serve over cooked noodles.

Goulash aint goulash without Paprika!
 
ok after reading about this dish i decided to make my my own version .
1 leek
5 carrots
2 green bell peppers
3 pieces garlic
1/2 stalk celery
1 can corn
1lb baby bella mushrooms
1 can tomatoe sauce
2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 teaspoon crushed pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/14 tesaspoon paprilka
1/2 box barilla spiral pasta

cooked the turkey till brown and added all ingerdients together and cooked it for 90 min .

i had never made this before . this dish turned out awsome , thank you for the idea .
 
The irony! I was just telling my g/f about goulash. She's italian and never heard of it. I remember eating my weight in it!
 
mom used to make goulash out of:

ground meat
pasta
ketchup

rice goulash:

rice
ground meat
cream of mushroom soup

i swear we used to eat one of the other every day for over a year during a bad local recession
 
It has to be the sweet Hungarian paprika. All other paprika sucks. I grew up eating goulash(often) and I haven't had it in years.

My ma use to make this stuff all the time also but she would always put redbeans in it also some times even blackbeans also another positive protein/cal/carb source love this food taste so damn good and its filling as hell
