most of us eat very similar meals. we eat oatmeal, brown rice, egg's, pasta, chicken, fish and meat. depending on what diet plan your on some foods may differ but all in all i think it's common for bodybuilders to eat lot's of protein rich foods of course. but good cuts of meat can get expensive and i get sick of chicken quickly so i usually end up just paying good money for my meat.

recently i began to hunt again (previously i could not hunt because i have been in the ARMY) and man does it pay off in dividends. attached is a pic of meat i just got from my butcher and i got to tell you that hunting (dear or elk) is a terrific source of protein, it's very cheap and available if your a good shot hahaha and I'm glad I'm back to it.

i hunted when i was younger but it was mostly for sport, i am so psyched that i can take advantage of this great protein source. anybody else hunt for there protein?????

Ya well, I am that example of missing my shot! I was in the middle of my prep, not much energy should not have been hunting. So no venison this year! I need to move back east where I can hunt from a stand and not have to hike my arse off to kill something!

Play on words..

I was expecting a thread about using coupons and "hunting" all over town for exceptional deals. When it comes to protein and anything for that matter...

IF IT'S FREE.....IT'S FOR ME!!!

hahahah i also live by this motto bro but it's never free when it comes to good meat..... god bless

no, i dont eat like that...

don't eat rice, don't eat oatmeal, don't eat pasta.
i eat DO eat alot of meat tho.

so, how much did that "free" meat cost?
had to pay a butcher right?
had to pay for the processing right?
how much does that cost, cuz i dont hunt. i'm out here in the 20th century lol. -JS

I butcher my own, right in my garage. But when you figure what I spend on license, hunting gear, etc, and most of all gas to get there and back several times, I don't even want to know how much it costs per pound.

What I do know is that the relaxation, enjoyment, and the peace of getting away is worth every penny. The venison is the bonus.

i don't pay for my hunting license it's free because im 100% disabled Vet. a friend butchers the deer for me but does not charge so i throw him some meat. i have owned the gun since i was 14 and bullets are inexpensive so yea it's practically "FREE" like i said.

Free except for the opportunity cost. Simple economics. If you spend 3 days hunting at 8 hours a day and bag one deer.. You spent 24 hours hunting. let's make it easy and say you make $10 an hour working. That's an opportunity cost of $240. If meat at the grocery store is $5/ lbs ( a decent average between ground beef and steaks) - you would get 48 lbs of meat.

I understand there's an enjoyment factor to hunting and you'd rather do that than work - I'm just pointing out it did cost you something.. On the very likely chance you make more than $10 an hour, you didn't really get this free. You probably actually paid more for this meat than grocery store meat.

:D hope I didn't rain on your parade

My mistake, different scenario.

100% disabled bodybuilder vet? How does that work?

I understand that hunting is not for everyone nor is it really "cheap" for everyone but it can pay off especially if you can hunt elk or really big deer = lot's more meat.

i had some shrapnel taken out of my knee and a few other injuries that add up to 100% VA disability but that does not mean i can't function in fact you wouldn't know i was 100% VA if you saw me unless i told you.

That is so true,it really is'nt a money saver, but very enjoyable even if you get skunked

deer hunting used to be very boring to me when i was younger, i used to love the small game hunt like rabbit, pheasant and quail but nowadays i don't mind and like you said "it's very enjoyable even if you don't get a deer".

sweet

i had some venison and elk my brother in law cooked me and never asked him what it cost. he had his made into sausage. i am guessing most people pay for that? wondered what the cost was...
i personally think deer meat is usually a bit gamey so i avoid it. -JS

Elk is definitely better in my opinion but the only way i like it is chicken fried and i avoid it because of the oil. if i got my hands on more elk that would be great but i don't see it happening in my state, just deer.
