Adding ice to you favorit shakes or drinking ice cold water after eating is not a good ide. Why? becouse are stomach enzymes are influenced by temperature and pH, and guess what is the optimal temperatures for mammalian enzymes? the ideal body temoerature is 86-113 degrees Fahrenheit.
So what happens when you add ice to your food. The stomach enzymes react to the cold temperature and become sluggish and unresponsive.
This dramatically slows down the digestive process and the body expends additional energy trying to break down food. This can lead to fatigue/sleepiness, bloating, stomach discomfort, belching and gas.

You can avoid this by instade of refrigerating or icing your food, leave it out and consume at room temperature.

Enzymes are biological catalyst and enormously speed up cell reactions.
And in this situation,we`re talking about speeding up digetive process without expending additional energy.

Great info Emeric!!

I really don't ever drink ice cold water. I was lucky enough to have a coach that advised against it durring my time with him. I like to brag how we won the CA State Cup among many other tournaments sometimes;)

OH!

NO WONDER I ALWAYS FEEL LIKE PUKING AFTER I HAVE A SHAKE. I ALWAYS MIX MY WHEY WITH COLD WATER. I AM IN NO WAY LACTOSE INTOLERANT, SO THAT COULD BE IT. BECAUSE MY STOMACH CANT DIGEST THE WHEY, BECAUSE IT ENDS UP BEING SLOW, I HAVE UNDIGESTED FOOD IN MY STOMACH WHILE TRYING TO WORKOUT! I think i'll try mixing my shake with room temp water tomorrow, see if it makes a difference. Thanks bro, I enjoy all your posts :)

Take you protein 2 hours before training.

Ive always taken it half hour - 45 mins before training.

Make you protein very thik, so you will have to eat it witha a spoon, this way you will have a much better digesting, eat it like when you ear solid food.
And you need to consum you protein 1 1/2 to 2 hours before training.

If you eat 2 hours before, than you don`t need to take any protein 45 min before training. Is OK to take 1/2 way in to your workout 1 table spoon of LBA.

Emeric, are you recommending "eating your protein powder" so that your body naturally produces more digestive enzymes?

Btw what kind of digestive enzymes are you using and how much are you using if your using any at all? What a funny sounding sentence. Hope you get it. :D

Emeric, you're a wealth of information! Thanks for the great info. As I am just getting ready to get back in the gym myself. And have done it the other way for years. I will try it this way for a while and see how it goes. Thanks for the info my friend.

But eating your protein I belive you body has more time to realise the enzymes.
To understand better, evan before you eat, when you smell, see it,or think about it, digesting begins, saliva begins to form in your moth. The saliva brakes down the chemicals in the food. When you ready to swallow, the toungue pushes a tiny bit of mushed-op food called bolus toword the back of your throt and in the opening of your esophagus (EPS), the 2nd part of digesting track.
Once the food has entered the EPS, it dosen`t just drop right into your stomach, instead muscles in the wall of the EPS move in a wavy to slowly squeeze the food through the EPS. This takes about 2-3 seconds.

I will tell you more about digesting, after my workout.

Makes excellent sense. Thanks for that good info.

After traveling around it seems that the use of tons of ice in drinks is mostly an American invention... I might be wrong tho...

I normally have 3 whole food meals and 1 shake before training. Because of my job i normally can't train until 7 or 8 oclock at night tho. unless its a sturday or sunday tho. O and i always take my shakes with room temp water. Found that tip out a couple of years ago.

I have time throughout the day to workout, but I feel most motivated in the morning and it gives me motivation through out the day. I do whey isolate and 2 oranges - then hit the weights an hour later. They both get digested really quick compared to other options.

So even something like an orange and whey isolate you believe 1.5-2 hours Emeric?

Love to hear more.

You still need 1 1/2 hour

Yes I take enzymes(a blend of multi enzymes) I open the capsule and I add the enzyme powder direct to my protein and I mix it together, than I eat the protein with the spoon. If you prefer to drink your protein than do this, add the enzyme in to the blender or shaker, mix it together, than take a mouth full of the protein shake and don`t swallow right away, kip it in your mouth for 3 second and mix it with you saliva, than swallow, reapit this till you finish your drink.

On other sugestion, try to have a solid carbohydrate food (bake potato, yem, with you protein shake, have a bite of potato and the protein shake in your mouth and chewed together than swallow.

Emeric,
I'm very interested in this. But I have some questions that boggle me.

I take it the chewing is to increase Peptin?

Isn't protein powders like 100% whey predigested? So that they already broken down these tough proteins for us into the usable peptides and amino acids. And then when these liquid protein supplements pass through the stomach onto the small intestine they are more likely to make it into our bodies as nourishment instead of foods we can’t break up and end up as waste.

Thanks!

Hey Emeric thanks for the response. I give this a go and also start drinking my shakes in room temperature water. I've always drank them ice cold and never had a problem, but I will try it out to see if I notice anything different. Btw, I like the advice you share when you first joined about using casien instead of whey. I didn't quite replace all my whey with casien, but I'm using a 50/50 mix and enjoying the results.
