Insulin to push into ketosis

This is an older topic I've stumbled on in the forums. Big A had mentioned it a few times as well. The idea is to use small amounts of insulin like 2iu multiple times per day while limiting total carbohydrates. This in theory should push you into ketosis. Does anyone have first hand experience in running this type of setup, and if you do how were macros structured?

i've also read snippets around the forums of using metformin for that purpose....

i think this would vary greatly from one person to the next , and even for each person depending on circumstances, only way to know for yourself is to experiment and test your blood sugar levels and then for ketosis. the article probably gives a starting guideline. key would be dealing with the anxiety and being careful if hypo situation.

I've done it several time

Start your keto diet Sunday
wake up Monday morning and inject 3iu Humulin-R , 6hr later inject 3iu again , afyer a few hrs check for ketosis after 6-7 hrs following the second shot if still not in ketosis inject another 3iu. You should be in good ketosis by morning.

I've never had to take a third shot.

Another protocol was to start your diet then that night i ject 2-3 iu before bed and you will wake up in ketosis , i never felt comfortable going to bed after taking insulin

My protein was high , shooting for 500g a day , fat was moderate at about 180-200. (250 lbs stage weight)

you will not stay in ketosis with those macos , you're gonna burn hell out of fat , so once you reach ketosis you can't be checking every day cause eventually its gonna show up negative.
the only sups i ever use was ECY stack 3x a day

just cutout carbs and you will be in ketosis in 48 hours max, why complicate things? Cardio and working out will speed it up also.

So, even if you stay on a ketosis diet with those macros your body will pull out of ketosis eventually? Does it start converting the protein to glucose?

See below post by NYMuscle

Cliff notes: No

http://www.professionalmuscle.com/f...ody-run-no-very-low-carb-diet-year-round.html

"Old myth still being spread. Unless you are a diabetic, protein is not an issue
and neither is gluconeogenesis.

Regarding excess protein -> glucose http://www.ketotic.org/2012/08/if-yo...s-it-turn.html

The body mostly turns protein into glucose based on need: http://caloriesproper.com/dietary-pr...ucose-control/ It is hard to eat enough excess protein to remove you from ketosis entirely, often it doesn't change anything: http://caloriesproper.com/dietary-pr...ucose-control/

And of course, the genius, Peter, says the same, aminos CAN provide oxalaoacetate to reduce ketogenesis, but the question is, does this happen in the liver? http://high-fat-nutrition.blogspot.c...d-protein.html

I happily accept any other articles that state the contrary of what is being proposed here. However, the evidence and biochemistry stands to reason: it is quite difficult to over consume protein to the point of being out of ketosis.

http://youtu.be/4JE-wdA3PHw http://examine.com/faq/how-much-prot...n-one-sitting/

https://youtu.be/mjmV8BlsJTQ http://bayesianbodybuilding.com/the-...1glb-optimal-p rotein-intake-for-bodybuilders/

Finally...The human evidence on reasonable variations in protein consumption disagree. The rate of GNG is relatively fixed and is NOT affected by supply! There is not a single study in humans (and none in rats/frogs/pigs/et that I'm aware of) which indicate too much protein does anything but spike blood glucose moderately. The only study I've seen that tested both insulin and glucagon indicates that the I/G ratio is preserved, meaning the BG spike does not "kick you out of ketosis."

Too much fear mongering in the keto world about gluconeogenesis(GNG). I call those people "GNG Truthers". Just like those who eat a carb based diet and tell you that eating no carbs is bad for you, the keto world has GNG Truthers that tell you too much protein or even moderate amounts will kick you out of ketosis (rolls eyes). I ran a little experiment. Higher than normal protein consumption. 100-150 grams of whey PER MEAL.... Did blood ketone tests over 50 times. ....ouch. Zero issues on my blood ketone levels and even blood glucose. I wish more people would do this because GNG is like the Loch Ness monster of the keto world."

I'm a little bitch and scared of insulin - I know theyre low doses - so I usually try something like this using berberine, metformin and leucine.
