Jake Paul vs Nick Diaz

DISCLAIMER: I do not follow boxing or mma

Someone help me out here - what is this business of a “professional boxer” fighting folks who are not professional boxers?

how can one claim to be a pro boxer if you’re not fighting other pro boxers and trying to win a title

just seems like for all the shit he talks, he would want to try to fight a ranked pro boxer, or is this all just a bs moneygrab

He's now beat askren, Woodley, Silva, and Diaz.

I knew Nate would have a disadvantage physically as I don't see him as being very athletic and doesn't have much muscle either.

It's totally a money grab that's why he's doing these fights. Money grab for bothe fighters.

I would look at as more of a celebrity challenge- entertainment.Still fun to watch though, I think.
Maybe sometimes even better then two equally matched top professionals.

There saying if Elon and Zuckerberg
Fight it will be the most watched ppv maybe of all time?

Correct - Paul and Diaz both made $10MM just for the fight plus they cuts of PPV buys, ticket sales, and merchandise sales.

The crowd in the building was 99% pro-Diaz - nonstop chants, everyone had on his shirts.

I agree Jake seems like a total douche but my understanding is that he does legitimately take his boxing seriously. I posted before on this thread, i think Jake will win by decision but i highly doubt he'll be able to KO/TKO Diaz. I think it goes the distance
Called it 😉

If they can hype it up right it's possible since they're two of the most known people in the world and drawing is all about high profile you are.

Musk could hype it fine himself; Zuckerberg definitely needs a Don King / Paul Heyman / some kind of great talker to do it for him.

I know part of why I watch Jake Paul is to see him get Knocked out. So the old wrestling bad guy antics work. He is growing on me though and I think earning people respect more than before.

I’d like to see Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson

I just saw the untold on Jake Paul on Netflix I think I actually respect the guy now
Same! That was a good show and he’s definitely entertaining to watch lol

I used to hate on him then all of a sudden switched sides. I would cringe seeing his stuff then started to find it funny. You're right that he plays the villain but then you start to route for the villain after a while.

I think hating on Jake for boxing and saying he is not a boxer is like telling anyone of us here to stop lifting and dieting because we are not real bodybuilders. For whatever it is it brings interest.

All my tech nerd friends I work with (probably you too) will 100% watch it, and most never watch fights.

Not as entertaining as Danny Partridge fighting Greg Brady!

There’s no way I’d miss that fight. Although I doubt it will actually happen. Musk is out of his element and very out of shape

I dunno man, he’s been training with Danaher and St. Pierre

Just for a minute though. Zuck has been at this for a while and is in considerably better shape. Elon looks like a damn beached whale with his shirt off. For context, not a fan of either of them.

I’m in the same boat… This is simply about money… I haven’t watched any of the Paul fights, and don’t understand the big draw to em.

Now reading here that people will pay to watch Musk/Zuckerberg fight!?? I have zero interest in that… I dunno maybe I’m just an outlier here…

Paul would never attempt to enter the ring versus a pound for pound in their prime ranked boxer. Then again, he is about the money, so there would be a serious purse for it, so maybe so!

Zuck is a mma fan and trains but for some reason I feel Elon will still win. Based on size and just more badassery to his personality. Zuck is born soft as a baby ass. I speculate Elon will do some steroids and own Suckerberg

Elon has like 10+ kids with x-amount of women.
Wives, stealing famous actors wives, banging employees. This guy...

Various members have said they don't understand this stuff. Outside of the money there's a huge reason.

Professional boxing has fallen incredibly far over the last 25 years. For decades you could ask people on the street who the world heavyweight champion is and they knew. Now nobody knows which is partially due to the alphabet soup of titles along with many other factors. The only professional boxer competing today that most regular people know is Tyson Fury, and I bet if you asked 10 people on the street only 4 would know him.

Fights like Paul vs. Diaz are trying to do something different with boxing. I won't say it's better than traditional boxing, but it's better than what their professional leagues are doing (cans, alphabet soup of titles, manger's guys only fight his other guys, etc.).

At the end the market dictates how much something is worth. Paul vs. Diaz did $3.2MM in ticket sales, the second largest combat sports event at the American Airlines Center behind a UFC show. So maybe this is what people want to see instead of the same boring, traditional stuff professional boxing has done for decades. Anything - person, business, sport, whatever - that doesn't evolve with the times will die off.
