I posted up a pubmed study of how inhibiting myostatin although it would take the governor off a limit in muscle size also severely decreases tendon strength (making them highly brittle and unstable).....so you could in essence be tearing bicep tricep pec and quad tendons on basically warmup weights in hopes of getting larger muscles with an inhibitor.

It was deleted....something I said?

Not at all DC

It was the other guy trying to sell the stuff, that's why I deleted the thread.

Something I have come across in my research as well. Even if it didn't have any negative effect on tendons, the muscle growth would still occur too fast for the tendons to keep up, and multiple tendon tears would be inevitable.

Damn! Thanks for posting this up. That is alarming....doesn't sound like a tradeoff I'd be willing to make.

cool by me, then all i got to do is burpees and updowns and calisthentics to stay shredded and big! lol

It's still quite an advancement in science....

What about guys with muscular dystrophy...if it was used for that, not for bodybuilding....

Anyway as far as I understand taking a myostatin inhibitor would make you gain muscle without weight training so you can basically get huge from the couch without having to worry about getting tendon tears from weights:D

yea get huge on the couch without training....and die in ~5 years when you can't stop growing. ripping your body to shreds sounds like a good way to go...

Well with enough myostain blockers and green paint you could become the hulk.

But in all seriousness if and when these things do become available you will see people doing arm chair "bodybuilding" simple as really

i should have known it was too good to be true. good thing it never came out on the black market. that would have been a mess

Who said it's not going to be on the black market? No TELLING what the future holds.

it'll come out on the black market. a round of people will use them. they'll either spend a shitload of money on something that doesn't work or they'll spend a shitload of money and die gigantic and in 5 years. there's no "reversing" myostatin blocking. you grow until you can't grow anymore...making you basically rip your own body to shreds. the massive muscles will be so strong you'll shatter your own bones, your lungs will collapse under the pressure and weight, your heart will shut down, etc. it seems like it would be similar to dying of tetanus (a VERY painful death). if it does work...people will use it until that first batch starts dying. people are dumb and willing to risk everything for the easy way out. mark my words...people will die if they get this to work in humans.

im not saying it doesn't have medical uses, i haven't done any research into muscular dystrophy or other muscle wasting diseases, but from personal research i'd have to say there are other ways to better combat these diseases...but that's a whole other discussion ;)

Couple questions, do we observe the ailments you describe occuring in whippets, belgian blues, etc with the gene mutation? Second, to what extent could excessive growth be inhibited by dietary manipulation, given that muscle cannot develop ex nihilo.

I think there's two path's be explored at the moment on myostatin, one is gene therapy to turn of the myostatin production the other is something that binds to the myostatin itself as a competing receptor (not 100% on all of this and its too late here to trawl thorough journals). In the gene therapy it will stop it completely where as the other one will be like a drug you take daily as from what they've learned on it week long bouts of growth would produce enough growth for medical purposes

I think that to get overly "concerned" about people using myostatin blockers is a little premature.

I'd give the item being banned a try if I thought it would do what it says and cut myostatin levels by almost 50%. People use Humanofort to cut cortisol levels... So why is this any worse?

If this stuff works, I predict it'll be a whole new ballgame soon. But chances are it doesn't.

i can't find any solid info on the first one right now...i'll get back to you on that. i'm looking :)

and i have no idea on the second one. im not a specialist in that field and have no clue how the body would react...i dont think anyone does. another thing we must consider is the overall comparison to the examples we have today: the cow (belgian blue) and the dog (whippet). there are rare cases of humans being born with the genetic mutation, but they're so few and far between that i can find NO solid data on them, plus the sample size would be far too small to make any conclusive inferences.

comparing humans to cattle and dogs is virtually impossible...we're far too different genetically to predict how a human would react to the same mutation. humans are very delicate creatures (despite what many think and how many treat themselves). small mutations can prove lethal in humans. this is a serious mutation that would put unnecessary stress on the internal systems of the human body, something that is rather detrimental to a human's health. i have seen no studies (even in the cattle and dogs) of how this mutation effects the cardiac muscle of the animals. if you double the cardiac muscle in a human, it will die. i know what some of you are thinking..."double the heart and double the body, it evens out." no, it doesnt. an enlarged heart is just as bad as an undersized heart, it won't work properly.

and to turn off myostatin in a human, you'd have to induce the treatment or whatever you're trying to do during fertilization. you can't take a magic pill now to change your genetic makeup...it doesnt work like that

Use to be you could only get as tan as your genetic makeup allowed... With the magic of melanotan II I can get pretty f'n dark... Something to think about...

melanotan doesn't change your genetic makeup. that is IMPOSSIBLE. well unless you go cell by cell through the TRILLIONS of cells in your body. it doesn't work like that.
