I pulled this off another board but I agree with it 100%!!

Michael Vick does 23 months for killing some dogs and lying about it. Donte Stallworth drives drunk, KILLS a human being, fesses up right away, writes a check and gets 30 days. Did either one get what they deserve?
What say you?

I say this judicial system is completely fucked and there are hundreds of incidents where humans are killed/raped/molested and their accusers are sentenced to less time than those who have done far less wrong on an ethical scale (roids/stealing/minor drug possession)....i really just don't get it.

In reference to the money above, Vick had access to plenty until they took it all away....

edit: just so my post doesn't come across as sounding like dog fighting is ok, I believe that it is completely discusting and that Vick should have been punished. I just don't feel that he should have lost everything and been imprisoned for that term when people die and those inflicting the death get less time...

somehow dog fighting is a lot worse than drunken driving and killing someone

the USA is completely fucked up and totally corrupt! in almost every possible way, shape and form. its about making money and thats IT. its pretty sad

My friend's mom killed someone drinking and driving, and the state she lives in, I think Washington, they don't even have a law against it! She woke up after her crash and didnt once care that she took another's life! She just went home and continued with no disgust of herself!

I do believe that money makes the world go round! I have a friend whos father is very wealthy, and have personally seen his fathers money "FREE" him of things that others spend time in jail for. It can be a very cruel, and sad world many hours of the day :-(

O.J.!!! Vince Neil of Motley Crue the list could go on and on.Look at Hulk Hogans kid.If you can lawyer up with a good one you get a slap.

How is it that the state of washington doesn't have a law for vehicular manslaughter(alcohol related)? I don't believe that for a second.

WAIT.........

Do you know Dante as a person? He is a great dude........he was drinking a bit BUT ....you want him to go to prison? This country locks up EVERYONE......this guy was JAYWALKING........D is getting 30 DAYS IN JAIL........2 YEARS HOME ARREST......6 YEARS PROBATON.........3 MILLION TO THE FAMILY.........SUSPENDED FORM WORKING INDEFINATELY..........1000 HOURS COMMUNITY SERVICE....LIFETIME SUSPENSION OF DRIVERS LISCENCE.........WTF MORE YOU WANT FROM HIM?????? The family forgives him and you cant???

Im not sure man. I dont live there and from what I have found on the internet laws do exist in the state of Washington. So im guessing theyre just not telling me the whole story. When/if I find out more ill try to relay the information.

Thats just it Phil , the media doesn't report he full story. The man ran out in front of him form a blind spot , he was dead the instant he commited to catch the buss weather "D" was drunk or not is not an issue the man would have been killed either way.
I'm not condoning drinking and driving lord knows I've seen what it causes more than any human needs to but in some cases the drunk factor isin't part of the equasion.
He made his restitution to the family and the courts smiled on him for it yes , would it happen to the poor bastered living paycheck to paycheck ? No not a chace in hell.

Ok bro. Yeah, they're probably with holding info from you.

Stallworth owned up to his part in the accident right from the beginning and cooperated with everyone. Vick lied to authorities, lied to the NFL, and denied he had anything to do with anything all the way along.

Big difference in my eyes.

While the loss of any life is sad and regretful, I heard how the accident occurred, and I must agree with Phil. The person was J-walking which is against the law, and from what I've heard and read, it seems Stallworth BAC was .125 which is rather high, and tried to alert the subject by honking his horn and flashing his lights at him.

The punishment, in my opinion, which doesn't mean jack, meets the the crime. Commissioner Goodell is taking a hard line on Stallworth an could be using him as an example that any type of activity that is going to negatively impact the NFL is going to be dealt with a heavy hand.

The "story" of Michael Vick is one of lies, deception, and cover ups. In addtion, it seems he has very little if any remorse, which is the opposite of Stallworth who has shown remorse and guilt, and is willing to receive his judgement.

Kind of sad the family turned this into a HUGE payday. Forgiveness bought at a steep price if you ask me. If you disagree with the verdict, be mad at the justice system, not Stallworth. He played by the rules he was given. I would have too. I do think killing a human deserves more punishment than killing a dog, but PETA might argue otherwise. ;)

One word

Intent

I think getting behind the wheel with BAC over the legal limit is intent. Not very different than the idiots who like to shoot guns into the air on New years eve,on one hand it might hit the ground,on the other you may take a life.I have very little sympathy for a drunk driver, too many inocent lives lost.

I can't believe the attitude on this thread...I don't care if the dude was doing the fucking Moonwalk across the street; Stallworth should not have been behind the wheel--period! It's amazing the amount of people in the USA who've had 3,4,5 DUI's and still are able to get a license. Many countries jail you after the first attempt and if you get a second DUI you never drive again.

If the USA said first DUI is a year in jail, 2nd DUI you also serve jail time and can never drive a vehicle again--how many DUI's do you think we'd see? The laws are so lax b/c of all the fines the Gvmt wants to collect.

Lets say someone breaks into your home and is robbing you; IMO if you break into someone's home you lose all rights. The homeowner can shoot you, stab you--whatever the hell he wants; b/c you lost all rights once you decided to rob him. DUI same thing. Once you get behind the wheel of a vehicle when you are drunk, the penalty should be the same. It doesn't matter if the guy was jaywalking or not. Also, Stallworth at first said the guy was lying in the street; then said he flashed his lights. If you were in a 30mph zone and saw someone crossing the street, assuming you were sober, would you: A) flash you lights and keep going, or B)Fucking stop the car!

lastly--how accurate is the testimony of a drunk going to to be anyway?

Dead on correct. This is why there are charges for involuntary manslaughter (common law), or vehicular homicide (also common law), or negligent homicide (Model Penal Code).

Depending on the level of intoxication you can have the reckless mens rea and likewise a possible depraved heart murder (murder 1 under the common law), but that does not seem to be the case her based on the facts.

With Michael Vick the intent is obviously different.

I also agree

I agree.....my point was that he is not just writing a check and getting 30 days in jail.........he was "drunk"yes......so throw away the key? You do not think he is being punished enough? 3 MIL.....LIFETIME LISCENCE SUSPENSION....2 YEARS HOME ARREST.......6 MORE YEARS PROBATION......1000 HOURS COMMUNITY SERVICE? Heck, give my 5 years!
