The technology for electric cars is getting better and better.. A high end model is the Tesla Roadster, and it does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds with a 288 hp engine.. A Viper does 0-60 in 4.0 seconds.. What's amazing about these electric cars is the efficiency of the engines, which is over 90%.. A typical gasoline-powered piston engine only runs at around 20% efficiency, with the vast amount of energy wasted as heat..

the problem is still $ and battery range

I'm sort of irritated still that GM wussed out on the Volt. the original design was sort of similar but used a biodiesel engine for the generator rather than gas, which I think makes tons more sense

electric motors are great. they'll spin as fast as you want them too and the amount of torque they can produce is insane. the only limiting factor is the battery technology. but that is improving fast.

as for the volt, well quite frankly im kinda pissed at gm for changing the body style. the original prototype looked cool as hell and was totally unique. i would have bought that! but im not paying 40 grand for an electric car that still uses gas and looks like every other damn car on the road. maybe the second generation will be better...

I can see how they may be able to pull a quick 0-60 but I wonder if they can hang on the freeway(top end)
