paying for parent's funerals

first of all THANK YOU for all of the replies. but as far as cremation, stepsisters and stepmother are REAL southern, real country and 'GAWD-FEARIN SOULZ'.

plus, dad made mention of not wanting it, so who knows. if i get strapped and it's an option, it's still on the table.

Don't do it if dad said he doesn't want it. If I did something like that I would never forgive myself. You cant live stuff like that down. Find a way to bury him, but just don't waste a bunch of money on a fancy funeral. You can do it affordable and still be respectful of him.

My father was against being cremated all his life. But in the end he changed his mind and decided having his ashes spread on a mountain he enjoyed picking berries on was better then being in a graveyard. So change can happen. All the best.

Yeah, I would talk to him about it and see why he is so set against it. Maybe you can help convince him that it is ok. After all, ashes to ashes and dust to dust.

i was kind of thinking along these lines myself. who knows what will happen (and when) and my dad has ALREADY beaten the laws of medicine by staying alive as long as he has lol (which is good) but i'm still left w/ these thoughts in the middle of the night/stressful times/while taking a crap/etc..

For the record, I’ve expressively told my wife that I want the cheapest burial possible, probably cremation.

If it were legal, a homemade cheap plywood casket in the backyard would be great,....I’m dead!!

After they harvest me for organs. When I was in grad school for exercise physiology, I had a classmate that would go out on calls with a guy that was in charge of harvesting an organ. I didn't realize it, but people specialize in an organ. This guy's job was to get eye balls. I guess there was another person to come get hearts, then another for liver, etc. I was out with the classmate one day and he got a page to go on a call. Apparently a guy was trimming trees with a chainsaw and ended up just about taking his own head off!
