Protein intake, how much is too much?

Being somewhat new to the board i have been reading alot and came across "beginners sticky" which recommended 500 gms of protein :eek:

I have always eaten at the most 2 grams per lbs of bodyweight, usually 1.5 if i am not carb restricting.

Anyone consistently eat 500 gms (or roughly 2.5 gms protein per pound of lbs is what that would almost equate to for me) and does it make a difference? can the body use THAT much protein?
 
Ignore the 500 grams thing. It all depends on your body weight. 2 grams per pound of body weight is plenty.

That would be less than one gram of protein per pound. You should have 5 grams per Kilo or 2 grams per pound.

80 Kgs is 176 lbs. You should consume 2 grams for every lb of body weight. I was giving a rough estimate saying kilo is 2.5 lbs, it's more like 2.2 lbs. You should consume roughly 352 grams of protein per day at your weight of 80kgs.
 
gonna ignore the 500 grams suggestion

i have competed and worked with some elite pro bodybuilders and the most they ever recommended was 2 grams per pound, which puts me at around 400 which is more than enough i think.
i consistently eat 1.5 grams per pound plus carbs to build mass and i don't think it has slowed me down... thx for the input STEELE
 
Protein is not necessary in those high amounts. Take in proper nutrients for the protein sparing effect (as well as numerous others) and a lower amount like 1.5g will be just fine for growth! Its when you dont have enough healthy fats and carbs that your body burns up the extra protein...
