re: biceps rupture?

hi guys! can anyone here give me some advice regarding an injury?

i have a partial rupture of my bicep, from where the tendon attaches near the elbow - as opposed to at the shoulder.

surgery is scheduled for next friday. the surgeon has told me that, with a successful operation, and a long and careful rehab, my arm will be ok.

anyone with any advice regarding anything i cando to assist the healing, repair and rehab process?

thanks.

Welcome to the board.

Normally, you'll want to take it very easy after a muscle has been reattached. It needs adequate time to heal/reattach itself. Don't get in a hurry - I don't know that I've ever heard of a "second" reattachment being very successful.

I've had this done on my shoulder. For mine, it was much more serious than originally thought. My rehabilation was MUCH longer than expected. Don't get despaired - while it took forever to get bacl anywhere close to normal, I'm much stronger now and can lift heavier now than prior to injury!

thanks

thanks for the welcome and the advice!

slow and patient - thats pretty much what the surgeon has told me. he said that i must just resign myself to a long rehab - but that if i did everything would be ok at the end of it.

any supplements that you would recommend to aid healing and recovery?

thanks again.

at least 6 iu of gh a day. That particular amount is proven to increase collagen up to 350%.

tendon repair

can also be enhanced by manganese.. and the inflammation by boswellia.. good luck with the surgery.. make sure to find a pretty agressive pt if you go thru rehab.. i have seen that the faster things are started.. the faster the recovery.. you may also want to get some muscle work done.. (ie. massage) in the area as soon as the doc clears you for it. it'll keep nutrient flow into the area at a maximum.. and keep scar tissue alignment at the best it can..

again!! good luck and stay positive!

re: gh?

thanks again guys. i AM staying positive! i have access to pro-athlete level physio, remedial massage etc so that should not be a problem.

with regards to supplementation, a couple of guys have mentioned gh but, as i have never used it before, i am somewhat "uninformed" in that area and therefore a little cautious about using it? i.e. potential side-effects etc. another obviious problem is ascertaining that the stuff is genuine. apparently the bodybuilders in my area are using some stuff from china at the minute.

i have ben told that there is a vet product t(pentosan) hat is used by rugby players etc. for tendon and ligament probs and also that a high-quality liquid glucosamine/chondroitin produce (eg synflex) will assist in healing?

thanks any advice or recommendations.

pentosan?

thanks for the link excel - interesting.

does anyone know if pentosan should be "site-injected" i.m. - i.e. do i need to put it directly into my bicep? or just any i.m. site is ok?

thanks.

From what I've read, it works kinda similar to AAS - you can inject it anywhere and it'll help all joints but mainly the one that needs repair. (AAS helps increase LBM but will increase the muscle you "work" in favor of "all" muscle)

I'd inject it relatively "local" - like in biceps for your case, in shoulders in my case (bad shoulders), etc. It would just seem to be a bit more effective - but I haven't read any positive as to what is better over either approach.
