You know guys, we haven't talked about this in a while, but I'd like to talk about harnessing the strength of your mind to become better bodybuilders and further accel with your gains. Our minds are SO powerful and determine the outcomes and results in everything we do. Let me tell you my experience with it since joining this board.
Before this board, I was your average gym rat who trained consistently 4-6 days per week and I guess you could say my diet was somewhere between clean and dirty. I'd have spurts of 1-3 months eating clean and then get lazy or lose focus. Still, the only real way I measured my progress or my overall physique was with other people in my own gym or in my town. Some of these guys seemed so amazingly huge to me, but in reality were state level bodybuilders at best placing somewhere in the middle of contestants in the heavyweight division.
After joining this board I've learned some things and met a lot of great people, but what I've recently noticed in the past 6 months is that my frame of reference has changed. My level of expectation has changed. Seeing a lot of you guys on here has raised the level of expectation on myself. This is something I haven't even been aware of until recently. I have one or two guys in my gym who are heavyweights, but they don't "shock" me like they used to. Starting out as your average gym rat at 220lbs-ish I am now 248lbs and I feel I look just as good as I did then(as far as fat goes) but now I am one of the bigger guys in my gym. I'm no longer "LittleMack." I stand out more and all these damn eyeballs are on me constantly. I can feel it and I hate it. lol. But I guess its teaching me to perform under pressure. lol. But you know, in my opinion, this happened so quickly b/c my level of expectations changed. The mind is such a powerful thing, and my point of all of this is that you "become what you think." This will also work against you if you have a negative attitude or think "those guys are only so big b/c they do "X"." Drugs, GH, Insulin, whatever you want to blame it on.
At this point, to propel me further, I think I need to go watch some shows and be around people who are much bigger than me. It may be just as important as the food I eat, my training, or the amount of rest I get.
Maybe OTH can chime in here as he is an authority on the mind, but I'd like to see what you guys think and maybe how you use your minds to make gains.
